You sound so happy and proud - sounds like she did great -exceeded everyone's expectations. Very nice and congratulations. That is so wonderful! There is nothing like when our kids surprise us, when
we're ready for a melt-down. It's so great you got to be there to witness
the whole thing. YAY!
My dd's kindergarten class went to see Sesame Street Live this am and I went as my dd's chaperone. I was quite nervous because dd can have a difficult time sitting still and I didn't know how she'd behave in a live theater setting. We'd been to the movies over the summer and she did ok.
I was not pleased that her permission slip said that she had to have her own adult chaperone for the trip. My advocate is addressing this with the school because they're not allowed to do this but for now I was ok with going because she's been on her worst behavior in school.
The night before I wrote a social story and had her older sister to these great cartoons to illustrate how to behave at the performance and she wanted nothing to do with them! They immediately freaked her out. She insisted on coloring on them which I let her do but I kept reading what the pages said even though she could read it herself. I think she freaked out because she can read, she's defiant, and knew it was going to tell her things she didn't want to hear-like how to behave!
We got there before the rest of her class so I took her upstairs to a more quiet area and let her run around a little and look at things and blow off a little steam while we waited which thankfully wasn't very long.
I made sure we got the aisle seats in case we had to make a quick exit. She sat in her seat and was perfect!!! She sat appropriately, sang, clapped and laughed. I was so glad I was able to be there.
There was a short intermission and she went with me to the restroom. She a little skittish in public restrooms but she did great. I let her walk around during the intermission and then we returned to our seats.
She really felt the need to get up and dance in front of her seat so I let her since she was being quiet and she wasn't blocking anyone's view and it was a musical performance for little kids after all. She was really feeling the music. All I can say was that she surpassed all my hopes and expectations for this event. I'm so happy and proud of her. She really impressed her teacher who gets to see her bad side far too much.
Thanks for reading.
Glad things went well!
