My son started off at age 4 on .05 (1/2 a tablet) 3 times a day.

I thought that was too much because he always looked tired and sleepy. Eventually we  brought it down to 1 time a day.

Now that he is 11 is on 1.0 (1whole tablet) about 45 min. before bedtime.

It does help my son get a restful nights sleep. They found out during one of his many EEG's that he never entered RIM sleep. His body never hit that peaceful needed sleep (at rest) state.

I did not like giving it to him during the day, but some friends have their child on it and think it's great. There children are really hyper and it calms them down just enough to focus, etc.

My son takes clonodine...he is 7 1/2, about 4' 1/2"  tall and 70 #, he takes .1mg - 1 whole tablet in the morning, 1/2 tab at 2 and at bedtime...so in total .2 mg a day. It has helped him slow down and not rush and to sleep. He can NOT take ANY stimulants and that includes soda, chocolate, etc. If you are referring to Clonodine, then yes I would say that it works wonderfully. My son has been on it for almost 10 months and has worked wonders from day one. If you child is having sleep issues, then yes, I would go for it. We have had SOOOO much success with it.

Skylar is 5 years old and has been on .1 mg 1 hour before bedtime.

I am assuming you mean clonidine?  My oldest was on it for a number of years and started with 1/2 of a .5 mg pill (I think?) at around the age of 7.  By the time he was 11, he was up to 1.5 a day.  He's weaned off it now.

Hi, my peditrician is going to put my 2 1/2 yr. old on it and was just wondering if you could post your chid's age and dosage for comparison.

Does it really work?

My thirteen year old son also takes clonidine, among other things.  He is 5'6" and weighs 153lbs (due to the "other things" he is taking-Depakote and Zyprexa), and takes .1 mg of Clonidine twice a day in the AM and PM.  The cocktail he has now appears to lessen the frequency, duration and intensity of his behaviors, but it didnt do much for his irregular and interrupted sleeping pattern.  After reading a study that found that most children with autism have irregular sleep patterns due to neurological dysfunctions, I added Melatonin once per day...worked like a charm.
