Floortime | Autism PDD

Along the lines of Jean's question regarding ABA, what do those of you who do floortime at home do and what have your results been like. I just started reading Greenspan's book and am interested to hear what those of you who have floortime experience think. Thanks....We use floortime as much as possible when we play. It's just based on reading Greenspan's book- we don't have a floortime therapist or anything like that.  I think alot of what our ST/OT recommend is based on floortime. It is not completely child -driven like in Greenspan's book though. Basically we just use use DS's natural interests -because they are very motivating for him and encourage interaction with him. Music, chasing games  peeka boo,  hide and seek are a few of the things we do.

I think floortime is great but for DS it would never have been enough. He needs ABA too -at least for now.

I think our former therapists loosely used floortime basics. I wish I could find a floortime therapist but any therapist is hard to find here. THe one I did speak with doesnt accept insurance at all, private pay only. sigh............

but I do try to do lots of floor time with my son, the problem with that is as he has aged he also wants to get 'stuck' on something and do it over and over and over and over, until I know it is not really being useful.

We're lucky to be starting therapy at the best floortime clinic in our city in a couple of weeks. I will certainly let you know how our son progresses there. We feel he is very high functioning, so we have great hope for floortime in his particular case. Were he non-verbal, we might be more seriously considering ABA.
