We use ABA- we do about 15-18 hours per week. We've been
doing it for 9 months now and DS has made great progress. Our ABA
program is based on Verbal Behavior. We do not use any aversives.
Our program is funded by the state's 0-3 early intervention program.
The program is a big commitment- in terms of time, energy, and money (
we paid to find and train the therapists and for all the
supplies) I've had to go part-time. I also have to coordinate
about 8 people's schedules! LOL! And people are always coming and going
from our home. I think it's well worth it- especially at the
beginning to get them the basic skills- lanuguange, imitation,
attending to tasks.
We also use other types of therapy: ST, OT, floortime, vision therapy, and are in the process of starting RDI.
Let me know if you have any specific questions.
I am asking that any of you that have used or are using behavior therapy, bhavior modification with your child, please explain what you do and how you feel it works. If your children have behavior on thier on IEP please share that with me too
Thanks to you all,
Jean,Hi Jean,
How's it going? How is your little guy? We use ABA therapy, it's written into his IEP and there are no added costs, he gets 10 hrs aweek. We also did a combo of floor time/ ABA on our own before we recieved the services from the school. I've seen great improvement. when we did aba, we stuck to very basic things, main goal was to gt him to sit and attend to tasks, that were very simple (knock, clap ect) with the aba provided by the school, we've seen improvements in all areas, especially his language, it is such a relief that he can respond to questions such as "what's your name? address? how old are you?" if he ever gets lost . It's been areal blessing.
ABA therapy here too and its on his IEP... it use to be floor time and ABA and I think floor time worked well for him when he was a little more on his own and younger...but ABA helped him so much especially w/ his words. He get it in school and is suppose to have it 10 hours a week after school but has been on waitlist for like a year and 1/2(also on his IEP)...and I'm fighting w/ the school about reimbursing me for outside help because I feel real one on one ABA will do wonders and I'm sick he's still not getting it...another story sorry! lol...anyway...ABA rocks in my book...best of luck!
hugs,
Ali
Holy VIOLATION Ali!!! if the home services are in his IEP and you've been waiting for a year and a half they are so out of bounds!! MA is known for swooping in and getting things straightened out. I'd call the DOE. If you want. I can get you the number. Not only are they in violation of state regs but fed regs under idea. Let me know. You know what Shakes, my last call w/ them I threatened to do just that!!! I didn't realized he was on a waitlist and didn't find out about his ABA extra therapy because it wasn't on his first IEP...I had the second visit w/ the ped neuro and she wrote it up I went to the school w/ a request for a new IEP and it was added AND then they told me he had already been on the waitlist since he began school back in May of 2004! (7 mths after he should have started school but EI never submitted any paperwork w/ the school and I was screwed no matter who I complained to or called no one helped and I ended up paying over 1500.00 I didn't have to get him a measly 2 hours a week of ABA for 3 of those months! ugh sorry to vent...I'd love the number and I'm sick of talking and fighting w/ these people, there is another Nicholas who is really severe and a little older than my guy who has been waiting for the same thing only longer...its time to blow some whistles and I'm mad at myself for waiting this long...grrr. thanks so much Shakes...you're the best!
hugs,
Ali
