Question for fred and twinzrock | Autism PDD

Hey, I was just wondering if either of you/or wife had to take terbutaline during pregnancy?  I have read about there being a possible link to that drug and autism, and I thought if both twins were affected and you had to take the drug(for preterm contractions) that it seemed looking into.  I had it as well, although I made it to 37 weeks, but I often wonder if it made an impact on neurodevelopment.  Just curious!  Thanks!I was on a form of it that is actually used for heart patients that have high BP. It was in a pill form and I took it whenever I felt my contractions coming on big time. I started having strong contractions around 20 weeks altough I made it to 38. I wish I could remember the name of the med. :(

twinzrockI am neither of the people in your title (sorry for butting in) but I was given it once, I went into labor at 25 weeks. I have heard that before about terbutiline, but they probably wouldn't have lived if they'd been born at 25 weeks. I have also read somewhere that 50% of babies born before 32 weeks are diagnosed somewhere on the spectrum. My twins were born at 30 weeks, 1 is most likely not ASD but is delayed, primarily speech, the other most likely is, that is just my opinion, they are both diagnosed as ASD. Drs tend to roll them into one person.  I have also known a lot of people who took it and their child never showed signs. They should definitely do a study on it though.Yes.  A couple of studies are present, too - one showing a possible link between the medication and PDDs  and another showing an animal model.  You can get them on pubmed - I don't have time to look right now.  If I had to guess at an environmental factor, I would guess that this drug is far more likely to have caused the problem than anything else, except, perhaps, the circumstances that led to the pre-term labor in the first place.  We had a relatively short round of terbutaline and the girls are affected, but relatively high functioning.  The girls were 34 weeks at the time.  I wish we would have just let them be born - I know another child, born at 34 weeks, and there were no problems at all.fred39352.2360069444

I'm not in the title either ... but I had to take it with all 3 pregnancies.
