Common behavior with Autism??? | Autism PDD

Share

Ok, just let me know if these things are common with your kids.

toe walking,  no speech,  plays with same toys all the time,  cries when I leave room,  claps hands alot,  pats on tummy,  hand flaps,  often doesn't respond to name being called,  no interaction with peers,  in own world alot,  doesn't want head tuched or hands held,  taps hands on toys and objects around room,  odd facial expressions,  bangs cup on booster seat tray,  studies toys-not play,  lays in floor to "look" at books or toys and plays with wheels,  very picky eater,  holds toys close to face especially when laying in floor,  throwing things just for the thrill of it-not mad

There are more things than that, but you get the picture!  I am just curious to find out if you would consider J to fit in on the spectrum.  Does this sound like a lot of the same things your kids do?  Do they do more/less than J???  I'm just wondering what his dx will end up being.

Thanks!!!  Sorry it ended up being so long!!!

melomo8339351.519212963My son does the hand flapping , Throwing all of his toys on the floor when
he plays with them to see them hit the floor, alot of sensory issues, fears of
esculators, alot of worries about things, not a good sleeper, OCD, has a hard
time with hugging people except for me, bathroom issues, but he talks
great, has a great sense of humor, and will eat anything if it smells ok or not
to sticky.   He was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at age 5. Good luck! Did you
go to childbrain.com and answer the questions it gives you an idea of what
might be going on.

Yes, I actually tried the childbrain test back in May.  But had to do some "guestimating" on a few questions because he's not my child and I've never taken him in public before.  So the score ended up being mod- severe.

Was it accurate for you all???

Sounds like my son. And that is our dx. Is the mother getting a diagnosis? It is hard to answer the questions when it is your own child but it was the
same diagnosis that the doctor gave me and that helped me accept that is
what he has.

It was very accurate for us.  One or both of my boys has almost everything on your list with a few they don't have. Has the speech path said anything else? I did read one of your posts about wanting to re evaluate but in 6 months. THey can't diagnose though, all they can do is give more therapy. If you talk to her again you might just want to say something like what about OT?

Just to add, the boys have a diagnosis of classic autism.

Every last one of them.

I wish I KNEW then ...

My daughter has Very Little speech,  plays with same toys all the time,  cries when I leave room...But so does my NT 18 month old,  She claps hands alot, she doesnt Flap her hands but I notice she always carries her arms half bent and wrists limp, Very Little interaction with peers,  in own world alot, taps hands on toys and objects around room,  odd facial expressions, studies toys-not play,  lays in floor to "look" at books or toys and plays with wheels, holds toys close to face especially when laying in floor,  throwing things just for the thrill of it-not mad, she also throws herself down.

These are all things my daughter does.

My son presented with more ASD traits (mostly playing alone) at preschool then at home and this is partly why it took us until he was 2.10 y/o to get him DX'd.  We probabaly could have got it done 4 - 6 months earlier if we would have watched him more closly at preschool.  This might play into why the mom is not seeing it as much.  There must be a proper way for the Daycare provider to escalate this - but I would not know what that would be.  I am sure this is a difficult situation for you - best of luck!

Plays with same toys all the time, pats on tummy, often doesn't respond to name being called, no interaction with peers ((or lack of, not always none)), in own world alot, taps hands on toys and objects around room, odd facial expressions, lays in floor to "look" at books or toys and plays with wheels, very picky eater, holds toys close to face especially when laying in floor.

other posts:

OCD, has a hard time with hugging people except for me ((nope, not even parents)), alot of worries about things, not a good sleeper ((moreso as an adult then a child)), but he talks great, has a great sense of humor ((or decent I suppose)), studies toys-not play, throws herself ((himself)) down ((not too often, on occasion tho)).

heh, all I did was copy and paste and found the majority did apply in childhood, tho only very few apply now, guess thats somethin to look forward too. heh.Sounds just like my son! we got mild to moderateI'm answering this remembering when my dd was 2.  She got a PDD-NOS dx 2 months ago at age 5.  As you can see from my answers, my dd doesn't have the stereotypical behaviors so I think that is the main reason for her PDD-NOS dx.

Speech therapist was talking about First Steps would be re evaluating him.

Gee, that pretty much sums it up that he has signs of autism.

I'm thinking about printing this thread out so I'll have it for later.  Maybe the right momment will come to show this to the mom.

Thanks everyone!

Is there anyone else that would like to share your info???

Yes, those symptoms do send up huge red flags for ASD.

Have you spoken to the parents yet?
