enzyme/probiotic supps? | Autism PDD

Hi Fred

Trying enzymes will give you a good idea of whether the gf/cf diet would work anyway, as the diet restricts the intake of gluten and casein and enzymes assist in the digestion.

There are some good sites about enzymes
http://www.enzymestuff.com/
http://www.enzymedica.com/
http://www.enzymeuniversity.com/index.html
and here are some testimonies

sorry I can't recommend any particular brand, you might want to talk to a decent naturopath, but make sure the one you get also has Betain HCl in it which also assist digestion.

The two main enzymes it should have are Papain and Bromelain which are sourced from Papaya and Pineapples BTW.

hope this helps

I haven't checked out the above websites, but I chose enzymes and a probiotics that were chewable.  I tried them myself and they tasted pretty good.  I order Zyme Prime from New Beginnings and the I forget the probiotic brand (it's the only chewable our local health food store carries).

With regards to gfcf there are many good brands out there.  Trader Joe's carries many gluten/casien free products as well as Amazon.com!  Wild Oats, Whole Foods, etc...

You can always request that your grocer start carrying specific items as well.  This is part of what we do in addition to looking for what is on the shelves, but you hav to be invested in the process as it can take time and searchin as well as money.

The enzymes and probiotic resources are also a part and we use Yeast-Free supplements to try and clear the yeast from his system.

Given many of your posts (even one this evening) I am surprised to find you looking into this.  All the best if you take this route or any other and if you need any advice on something specific in this realm please feel free to PM me as DW is a Traditional Oriental Medicine Practitioner as well as a Western trained Physical Therapist (so we get both sides in this house) and I am sure she would be happy to steer you.

Hi,

I'm pretty doubtful that diet modification would help the girls, but since it's pretty harmless and inexpensive, I was willing to give it a try to see if anything happened.  Problem is, their mother is adamant about not trying any special diets, and it would be impossible without her cooperation.

I have a very good health and supplement store down the street from my house.  What would you folks who are knowledgeable about this stuff recommend for supplements that would target the same things that the special diets would - I'm guessing enzymes and some sort of probiotic?

Can you recommend any specific brands that are likely to be carried in a good health food store?
