Parent/teacher conference went well! | Autism PDD

We really needed this!  My DD is almost 8.  She is a mainstreamed second grader with aide support.  Last year her first grade teacher was excellent.  My DD really bloomed and we were very pleased with her progress.  Her new teacher seems to be great also.  She told us DD still has some frustration issues, but her aide can easily redirect her now.  She has had a few outbursts, but so have some of the typical kids.

BUT, The teacher said on a regular day, if she walked into class not knowing of DD's dx, she probably would never know she not typical.  I cried, I felt so embarrassed, lol.  We needed that good news!  Its hard to explain to parents with typical kids, but I knew the parents here would understand.

DD still has social issues.  We are helping her improve her conversation and other social skills.  Her classroom is highly structured, so it leaves little time for her mind to wander, that is when she gets off task and has outbursts.

DD is interacting more with kids on the playground.  My DS is a kindergartener, and they play on the same playground.  She loves to play with him, and he is very friendly and has lots of friends.  So that is helping DD make new friends and interact when she would never have on her own.

WONDERFUL NEWS! That's nice to hear!!!!I'm so happy to hear your daughter has gotten caring and understanding teachers.  It sounds like she's doing great.  Wishing you further success!

That is soooo awesome!!  Sometimes you just need to hear those things, especially when things are so uncertain!!  Keep us up to date!!
