Sons evaluation

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

Ok,  Timmy's evaluation was september 7th,  I have left 2 messages already requesting status of eval with no response.   Have also sent question to OT at her request 2 weeks ago today,  Left email and messages for her with a response on friday saying she is working on scoring questionaire, (  this takes 2 weeks???)  Should i be a pest????

I'm starting to get frustrated because In paying very close attention to his behaviors i'm noticing 100% predictability with certain things,  Meaning he performs exact same response 100% of the time given the same stimulus.

one example of this is the vacuum.  Does not matter what he is doing or where in the house he is, when he sees the vacuum he runs away,  soon as i turn it on he comes running over to it,  throws huge tantrum and try to grab it from saying he wants to do it.    I would think much of this if it weren't Every single time.

Another example would be when a certain commercial comes on pbs with kids playing musis,   100% of the time when he see this he runs into kitchen and spins in circles.

At evaluation He tested beautifully,  completed every task,  answered every question correctly,  made some eye contact and sat  through entire eval with exception of last 10 to 15 minutes.

I'm just confused with him and extremely frustrated with this wait because i don't know in what direction i should go with him.

I am not sure if you mentioned this earlier - but how does he do on the childbrain test and the MCHAT and just based on your judgment on the DSM criteria I'm sorry,  I don't really know what these are : childbrain test, MCHAT, DSM

I don't know what the school guidelines really are, but has he been dx'd by a doctor?  And is this eval just for placement?

I can tell you from experience that when we originally got Mason started in early education it took about 3 months from the start of the evals until he actually started school.  And again this year he had a 3 yr reevaluation...started in early March and didn't have our IEP meeting until the end of May.

There is a book called "Does my child have Autism" - it has the M-CHAT in the back of it - this was the book that finally convinced me that my son has ASD

DSM is the criteria which definses ASD - http://www.childbrain.com/pddq3.shtml

Childbrain.com has a online test  which will do a score for you http://www.childbrain.com/pddassess.html

The best thing to do is get a neroevluation from a doctor because the school
will take their time plus they don't always give you the right dignosis. I
know the evelv. I got took me 3 months to get back.

Just wanted to update this.  Timmys report came through  almost 2 weeks ago.  He has not been diagnosed with ASD ,  Only things they reported were a social and emotional delay and that has sensory seeking behavior.

The only thing he is eligible for is a 2 1/2 hour class once a week. Not sure if this is enough but i'm not complaining right now.  I have to just wait and see how things go.  He'll be starting next tuesday, going on the same bus with his brother

Soon as i get new batteries for my camera i'm going to take some video of him and share it with all of you,  He has some pretty odd behaviors at times and other times just a little devil

Thanks for listening

carol
