T will be getting services for speech, ot and life skills at home by child find. The only thing that annoyed me they put down disabilities for IFP and he will have an IEP for preschool at age 3. They said at age 3 they change it with a title. They also said they will change it when he goes to the dev ped to be checked for AS and pdd.
Another thing they are teaching him sign lang? Has anyone had this?
I taught Sam signs at 2 yrs. He learned about 40, and could even sign a book eg. green tree, yellow star, blue bird by the time he was 3. I think it is excellent for any 2 yr child. *Studies* showed that kids who signed young seemed less frustrated. I have a raging NT 2 yr now and teaching him the signs for "help" and "more" have helped decrease the duration of his tantrums. Both my PDD NOS son and NT son loved to sign. I remember reading that a spoken word used with a sign can help with comprehension - the visual sign lasting longer than the spoken word. Had I know about PECS I would have used them too.
Sam became more verbal around 4 1/2 yrs and the use of signs declined, but he hasn't forgotten them and still responds if I sign "stop".
The services you are getting at home sound great.

My boys went to a fantastic inclusion preschool for autistic kids when they were 2 and teaching sign is usually the first thing they learn before using PECS (picture exchange comm sys)...it really helps alot..my 10 yr old used it for a few months, then learned PECS quickly, but my 4 yr old has been using sign primarily, he hates PECS...it really depends on the kid...It really helps with frustration when they can't think of the word on their own!!!teaching sign is very common. They taught the boys a few basic signs, they never really took to it though.
