I took David off the Risperdal on Saturday. We had put him on it about
a year ago for aggression. The Dr increased it because we were still
having problems. David got worse so she said to go back to the normal
dose but I wasn't happy.
It took about 3 weeks to wean him off it and now he is a new kid. I
have my beautiful boy back. He is so much calmer and less aggressive.
The only issue I have is he is so crazy in the afternoon once his
ritalin wears off. Any ideas what we could do?
I'm so happy for you!! That's great! Have you and your dr. discussed the extended release forms of ritalin? Paul is on Concerta which is one version but there are several. It stays constant in the blood stream.

Cheryl,
I was just wondering if you have ever tried Carbatrol, the twins Dr. said it was close to Risperdal but works better. I have not been able to find much on the net about it being used for autism. So I was just wondering. My twins are so loving and happy most of the time. But there are occasions that they get angery or upset. Those are few and can be calmed down easy most of the time. But my Dr. thinks the Carbatrol will help with sensory issues and temperment and sleep. Do you or anyone else have any info to give me. Also we just found out that they have a thyroid problem, and have start to treat it. It just sees odd to me that two healthy large for thir age 3 year old boys would have a thyroid problem.
Thanks-EricaSorry I went offline. David had an accident with a chisel at school in
woodwork. I had to take him to the Dr for glue and steri strips. David
made sure to tell the Dr not to put the strips on too tight because it
would cut his circulation off!
I just about cracked up.
I will have a chat to his paed about the Carbatrol. David is on Ritalin LA and two top up ritalin as well.
I just wish I could get the medication right.
My son jon is 3 years old and is on Risperal at .50 mg a day. His doc said it was for mood swing and to keep hin on track and all that it does is make hinm eat and sleep alittle better
Hi!
Have you noticed ANY other changes since he is eating AND sleeping better? I am hoping AJ will sleep through the night. However, we are in the midst of potty training. Therefore, i can't blame him for waking up when he does, cuz he doesn't like the "feeling" of waste in his diaper ( Pee or PooPies) IF his aggressions are related to "speech delay", that could be why is is so aggressive (sp). EVERY child is different AND unique in their OWN lil ways.
