There is an organization called Project Lifesaver.  You could see if they are in your area.

Seems very intrusive to me

i would have hated if someone did that to me when i was a kid

i think lifesavers a better idea

Have any of you considered lo-jacking your child?  A friend of mine mentioned that they are going to lo-jack their 2 yr old daughter in the next 3 yrs and when she's older, they will tell her and let her take it out at 18.  I don't know how I feel about this.  From the protection standpoint, it seems great to be able to locate your child anywhere, anytime.  But then it seems a bit over the top.

Any thoughts??

We have the monkey backpack and use it on Skylar.  It is AMAZING!  We love it, he loves it and doesn't try to take it off.  At his worse times it feels like you have a 50 lb dog on the end that's not leash trained, but with a little muscle we can keep him in check.

[edit] Nevermind... I just reread your post and realized I misunderstood.  Carry on (BTW, this the the DH noy Mandy :D)
mandyanthony39349.7389930556I have considered it but can't bring myself to do it.  The problem I have run into is in the state I live they don't support project lifesaver or even know what it is.  So they technology for this is the same and where the police and emergency departments can't afford the technology or just don't have it I can't see doing it.  I considered it because my child is a runner and if you let go of him for two seconds he is gone.  He did this just again this week when I turned around at JcPenny's to pick his brother up.  I couldn't find him for 10 minutes the time before that it was 15 minutes where he ran away in the grocery store.  It is scary.  I would look at other alternatives first. Isn't there something you can attach to them (like to their clothing) that lets you know if they are more than so many feet away from you? I am thinking of getting that. We considered the bracelet gps locator.  But, there is no coverage in our area and probably won't be for awhile.  I know some people with the backpack from WM, and they love it.My daughter is constantly trying to get out of the house. We found her (with the help of over 75 people) chest deep in a creek. She was missing for about 2 1/2 hours. She seems to figure out how to get out very easily. She watches us and waits for us just to look away for a second. She was with me outside (about 6 feet away) and I literally look away at something for a minute and looked back and she was gone. Luckily we found her pretty quickly that time.

We are currently trying to get a fence built. We also decided to get the wristag by ionkids. The national Autism Association had it on their site.  However they are on backorder and we won't get it until Oct.

Our small town is currently raising money for Project Lifesaver because of an Alzheimers Patient that has been missing for over 3 months now. It started it in motion. I don't know how long it will take to get going here though.

We got Trinity one of these for Disney World, but now she wears it everywhere!! She loves it almost as much as I do.

We call her our little pitt bull.

Her OT said its good for her SID  too.

Hidngplace -- what a scary story!  I hope your town gets Project Lifesaver soon.  Even though it's expensive equipment, it's sure cheaper than a full-blown rescue operation, and I hope that convinces the people who can make this happen.  For those of you who haven't heard of Project Lifesaver, here's the link:

Are we talking about an implant?  I guess I'd be hesitant to take such a drastic step, especially since it would presumably involve doctors and might end up being a traumatic experience for my child.  However, if elopement (running off) were a big and constant risk, I might consider it.

Here's a more lo-tech and affordable child locator:

Here are some topics about elopement on our forum, including tips on how to get the school involved:
