First time visit with a Neuro... | Autism PDD

Share

From what I remember, my visit visit with one at 5 took a few hours. Both with me and the doc and the doc with my parents. Then I had a whole bunch of tests and then a few days later we went back and they talked again with my parents and again with me.

My son is 5 , he's been in the school system for the past 2 years, well since he was 3. He was already Dx'ed with Autism  by the school team. They have their own Physcologist and Therapists. He has IEP's, etc. So we are good as far as school goes.

Thanks for the replies so far:) Anything and everything is helpful!

Initially the doc will probably just get LOTS of info from you about your child.  You might even complete a few forms/questionnaires which could ask about the child's behavior both past and present.  This questionnaire assess a child’s behavior and social competency.  If the child is in school they might even give you a form for the teacher to complete.  The doc will ask question about developmental achievements - when he/she walked, talked, potty trained etc.  Also ask if there were any problems during the pregnancy.  Our first appt lasted about an hour.  I don't really know because my son's first visit with the ped. neuro was in the hosptial.  Just wanted to wish you good luck,.

Can anyone help me out and give me a little insight as to what I should expect at this visit? Will they do tests or is this just an evaluation?

Hi there -

We just had our first visit a couple of weeks ago.  We had filled out some paperwork just general infomation as mentioned above - milestones, concerns, etc... the doctor interacted with 3 year old DS and basically told us that he does see signs of autism but not ready to label as yet...

Wrote a script or recomendation to get early intervention through schools and also said he wanted to get DS to have MRI EEG and blood work.

How old is your child? Is he/she having red flags?
