Edmark Reading Program for Autistic kids | Autism PDD

Edmark has been around for decades. It's the gold standard, IMHO, for teaches kids sight reading. It has been used with ASD and MR and DD kids for a couple of generations, so there are lots of teachers around who know how to use it. My son got it starting in Kindergarten and learned to read quite well using it.

One caution -- Edmark does not use phonics AT ALL. The reading MATERIAL that is presented once the child learns to read is BORING. So supplementing as kids get older is KEY. My son's K-1 teacher wrote INDIVIDUAL stories for each child. They LOVED them. I have kept both years' worth of these little booklets. This teacher was AWESOME!  My son soon had to be switched to a phonics based reading program because he started teaching himself phonics. Sight word programs are a good start and they work well long into elem. school for the MANY kids for whom phonics is not the right approach.  Glad to hear that Edmark is still doing its work!

DeepRiver has a program called EDmark reading program,. this program is awesome. Your child can only excel with this. Its a visual, auditorial, program with repetitive review. Great product. Also there are CDs that are awesome that are especially for Autism. Linguisystems promotes these Autism & PDD Software by Beth W Respess. again repetitive, visual and auditorial.  Try some of these CDs out

once again you are right tzoya.
