Getting 2 year old to wear glasses? | Autism PDD

Perhaps get him a new teddy bear and pair of those rubber Harry Potter glasses from the party store (I think they are like 6 pairs for ??).  Put the glasses on the bear, and give your son the bespectacled bear AND a new story book.

Perhaps tell your son ya'll can read the new book to his bear, but the bear wants to see the cool pictures really well, so he wants to wear his glasses.  "Wants" being the operative word here.

Loved the idea for ya'll to wear reading glasses.

My son got glasses when he was 14 months old - I thought he would NEVER keep them on - his opthalmologist said once he figured out how much better he was able to see he would keep the on
And he was right - he really does keep them on well and it took just a day or two to get used to them

We suspect our son has autism (he's being tested soon). He recently had an eye appointment and it turns out he's also farsighted. We need to get him glasses, but he won't even keep them on for long enough to get a good fit. I can't imagine how we're ever going to get him to keep them on. Any tips? Any success stories? He'll be 2 in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it's a challenge for any kid that age to wear them, much less if the child may be autistic too.

My son Michael started wearing glasses at 19 months,   he has extreme farsightedness.   Strange thing i never had a problem getting him to wear his glasses,  he never takes them off.  He had them for about a year and had already trained himself to get them in the morning  off the shelf and put them on.

I think it was he enjoyed seeing better,  it took no time at all for him to realize he could see the details of Thomas the train and other toys much better with the glasses on.

The doctor did tell us IF we had a problem to try a strap.  But i'm thinking you may be able to Model behavior for him..  maybe buy some reading glasses at the dollar store and put them on,  If he sees mommy wearing them maybe he will try them also.

sorry,  I couldn't be more help,  i just never had the problem with keeping them on.   My worst problem is Michaels little brother grabbing his glasses and breaking them
