It's been a couple of months since I have been on here. I had my third and final boy two months ago. Needless to say, I have been watching him like a hawk. I'm concerned that he may get dx and I'm just looking for the signs since it's highly possible. Anyways, we went for the six month followup since a possible dx of autism with my middle son, and the dr. confirmed that he does infact have it. After our first appt. the dr said a langauge delay with possible autism. Of course I got a glimpse of the script she wrote for his treatments and it said asd. The dr came to this conclusion with the gars that his teacher filled out. I told the teacher what the dr said and she said that she wasn't sure if he would get the dx at all. She said that with the improvements that he has made in the last 5 mths that if there is no regression, which we haven't had so far, he will probably end up as a semi typical kid. She said that he may have moments when he as some meltdowns but as he gets older, he'll recognize them coming and be able to diffuse them. I can say that even though I saw his improvements, it's nice for someone else that's educated about this, to tell me this. When I first heard those words "he might have autism" I wanted to just die!! I came on here and read for days and all of you helped me deal with this. You didn't know it but you did. I wanted to share whats been going on with us in hopes that maybe someone that is in the position I was might be able to see that it can get better. We have bad days but for the most part I see him growing and learning so rapidily before my eyes. Sorry that it's soo long and thanks for reading and any comments!!
I just joined here but I wanted to reply as what you were told by the teacher was almost exactly what I was told, that with the 2 yrs of pre-k for Austim that Ash will have before going into Kindergarten, they think he will integrate right in and go on to have a practically normal life with graduation, university, marriage, the whole 9 yards. They said he would probably always have some social and physical quirks but that they won't lower his quality of life.
Do you ever get skeptical of that dx though? Sometimes, on the bad days, I think they just said that b/c I was so upset in the beginning. Do you think your case was genuine
My son started in special ed. at the age of 3, now he is 4 and has been 1 year in that school. So he started pre k this month and the teacher who is new, told me my son doesnt look or act autistic and that she dont understand why he is there. I told her he has improved since he first started in 2006 and was 1 year behind in speech etc.. and that he still has minor delays and needs to be taken care of by the therapies he gets at the school. His evaluation is coming up on October. He has made progress, i just hope they dont terminate the services .
