Mason is one of those "perfectionists." I have been sent home many papers that are crumpled or ripped because he got upset that it wasn't turning out the way he wanted.
One thing they did figure out for Mason is to tape his paper to the table...it doesn't move on him then and he seems to be calmer not worrying about it sliding around.
She's quite the "rule" child!!
I bet she's always been like that in a milder form. Since school----there is alot more opportunities to put the rules in place. More anxiety since it's a new year, etc.
My son is so far--doing the same things. Only a few meltdowns and a couple of trips to "Australia" (there quiet place in the classroom). One of those trips did last a couple of hours---he refused to come out!
Yep .. I am betting the older she gets, the more "Aspie" she looks!
It definitely is related to the opportunities afforded by the classroom setting, too. Her Kg teacher said she "liked" the rules. I never saw the rigidity and stuff before she started school, though! About the most that had been observable at home was when she had an expectation (such as going out to dinner or getting dessert) that got shot down.
So, the plot thickens ...
Okay the spit-sucking stim is one thing.
The adherence to rules -- in SPELLING, if it does not follow the phonics rules, forget it! She is not gonna spell it. But she is doing GREAT on applying the rules, and she is doing great on sight words!
Perfectionism in her handwriting. She may write those words all over the page, and use caps gartuitously to spice things up ... but, if she does not like the way a letter is formed, rip up that page and START OVER!
Anyone else seen new stuff as the school year kicks in?
Jasper loves his rules--the most annoying one to me right now is that he flat
My son is pretty rigid about phonics rules, now that he finally learned to read. It really OFFENDS him that some letters are silent in certain combinations.
I haven't seen behavior changes or anything special since school started, though.
My younger son (no diagnosis, but social delays) started wetting his pants again after school started. He only does it at home. Thankfully that's going away now that he's getting used to his new school.

Gotta laugh, NorwayMom -- I read this to my husband and we both thought of the Monty Python skit about Ka-Niggits! (ie, Knights) ...
Actually on her spellign test, yesterday, she spelled "Kiss" correctly! So maybe, maybe, maybe, with more practice, she will come to terms with the "tricky" words!
