Soccer Update | Autism PDD

My son loves puppies as well. Thankfully, all the neighbrs have dogs that are kid friendly and they let me son come over and play with the dogs. I don't know how I could take care of a dog--I am lucky to get a shower these days.Great new about the soccer.  What a great interaction with the other kids. The pictures are fabulous.  I want to run my fingers through those gorgeous heads of blonde hair.

I am so glad C. is doing so well.  I heard having an NT brother close to your age age does wonders.  Being a twin must be great.  A peer to challenge you all the time.  We had such a bad experience at soccer last year, didn't even try this year.

Concernedpa.

Those are some really great pictures! How proud you must be of them.

Those photo's are darling. I could just kick my self for not signing my son
up
for soccer this fall. Your kids are so cute.KathyK39346.4146875

WIMomOf2,

No, it's not our puppy, though the boys wish it were!

We're in our 4th week of soccer.  So far C is doing better than last year, only 1 mini-meltdown so far, and 1 almost meltdown that he was able to control.  What sets him off is when he misses a goal or when someone hurts him and he doesn't realize that it was an accident.  On the bright side, when he scores a goal his face lights up like a Christmas tree and he jumps up and down saying "I'm a winner mommy!"  (Dark side - when he misses a goal he says "I'm a loser" and it breaks my heart.)

Here are some photos of the boys mixing it up on the field.

R & C running down the field

R with a breakaway

C taking the ball downfield with a teammate

C poining out something to R (wish I knew what)

I still get the warm fuzzies when I see C pointing and talking and interacting like this.  I remember all of those early evals...  Does he talk? NO  Does he point? NO  Does he interact with his brother?  NO  Does he respond to his name?  Sometimes.  He has come so far since then.

Great pictures! I'm so happy for C.  Did you get a Cocker Spaniel puppy?

Ah, how cute. You must be so proud. I hope my boys will play soccer some day--it's so fun!

It sure is great to see them point, isn't it?

Kristys,

Concernedpa is right. C is very fortunate to have the R around. I'm only recently realizing myself how important is the friendship that exists between my two boys, and how Nate's modeling of his big brother has really helped him to fit in a lot better with his peers, and to be able to affectively socialize with them (especially when it comes to shared interests in sports).

C will eventually come to understand that he's not going to win all the time, and he'll be fine with this. It's just something that young competetive athletes with autism usually go through (NT's too), my son did back when he was C's age. I suspect your son will do very well in competetive sports. Good luck!
