Hi everyone
I am in the UK and have sourced the Light and Sound therapy centre and also an Irlen lens specialist.
Was wondering if anyone has had their child go through these therapies and what were their experiences? They are expensive so I am tryiing to find out if we can obtain funding for our son to have them.
Oliver's main problems in the sensory area are sound and touch. We never had his eyesight checked out at all as he wouldnt comply, but now he is age 11 we think he will, he's good with instruction.
Thanks
I've never used any of these things (though I badly want to have my son evaluated for getting Irlen lenses!), but I know there are a few folks on here who have tried music therapy, and Allegra's Sharlet uses Irlen lenses.
She's had some pretty good stuff to say about them, too. Hopefully, she'll see this post and chime in!
Thanks Evie, I hope she does see my post. My son had music therapy for a year at age 7, really useful for him, he got a lot out of it. We were hoping to get his music therapy written in his statement of special educational needs, but alas the authorities didnt award it
He attends a National Autistic Society school here in the UK, it was a long fight with authorities (again!) to get him a place there 3 years ago, he will be there till he is 16 - then who knows what will happen! Cross that bridge when we come to it.....
Its good your son where's earphones.......these really help to de-stress as well, soothing music, blocking out unwanted sounds (ear defenders). We are looking into ear defenders at the moment for Oliver as he has a big fear of fire alarms, mechanical sounds! It just bugs me so much that these special things are so very expensive! We have an electronic piano at home and he loves playing this, he is starting to memorise certain tunes which is great!

I hope we can get them, too! :) I'm thinking of trying music therapy as well, since he seems to be really drawn to it. Loves my MP3 player! LOL
I'm sorry they couldn't/wouldn't use music therapy for Oliver. :( Can you continue some version of it on your own, since it's so expensive?
I am having dd participate in an outreach listening program. They use the Tomatis method to retrain your vestibular and auditory system. She'll start in October and ender in December. I'll let you know what the results are. She's basically going to go to the clinic and put headphones on for 2 hours a day for 2 weeks, then have 2 weeks off. She'll repeat this for 3 series. I have heard that this therapy is quite mainstream over in Europe.45GIRLS_ my son is doing theraputoc listening. It is for 20 minutes 2 times a day every day. It is based on tomatis..I have read about the tomatis method but did not know the time lenght would be so different. I would love it if you could pm me with more info on your program! Thanks so much!!!!
