How great for you guys...

I know exactly what you mean.  You can just tell when they "get" something...that connection thing...that eye contact.  When this happens here..I am overwhelmed.

Two worlds collide...Hooray!

That is so great! I bet that was so exciting for you! The thing with these kids is that every step is something to be celebrated!

My son did a really great thing yesterday...he actually showed me that he wanted me to continue doing something!

It was a silly thing.  He likes it when I spin a hangar on my finger.  So I held it up to my face, and asked him "Do you want me to spin this?"  He gave me a quick glance of eye contact, so I spun it.  He looked right straight in my eyes and smiled the biggest smile.  He laughed when it spun right off my finger and down the hall.

Then we repeated the whole process about five times.  He's never done this before, and I am so thrilled!

I mean, I know it's not words or anything, but this was such a big deal to me that I wanted to share.  Big step for Jason!

Progress is progress and that IS a big deal!!!That is a huge deal.  Congratulations.

Thanks, guys.  I feel like such a dork, getting excited about this, but hey.  It made me wish I had a camcorder, though.  *wish list for Xmas!*That's great!

WOW!  Communication!

Little things add up!

Moments like that make it all worthwhile.  Keep up the great work. That is great. That is really how language began for my son. We would bounce on a ball, stop and wait for a response. Then he would love his head off. Do you do Floortime? That is one of those interests you would use to encourage language at whatever level the child is able to communicate. Eye contact, a verbalization, a word, a sentence.

That's great!  I remember when my nephew was about 3 and had quit saying the few words he knew.  He came in the room and hit the door and I jumped up a said DOOR! and slapped it again and he almost smiled, but he hit it again and mom and I yelled very excited DOOR!  Then she jumped up and smacked the table and we both said TABLE!  We kept doing it because he was watching and stepped into the room more and put his hand on the couch and looked at us and we said COUCH!  This got to be a great game for him.  My son picked him up and he touched the ceiling and we all said CEILING!I think he thought being up so high and touching it and we responded was awesome and from then on it was game on.  He eventually started saying the words  We played this all the time and one day he came and pinched my lips and we found that we didn't need to be so excited and loud.  I think though the fact that we were excited and a bit loud at first really got his attention.

But, I guess the point I'm making is we can spend alot of time and money on different approaches to connect, but something simple at the right time can make a huge impact.  Anytime he wantedto connect and have us interact he would start this game.  We were able to put in some facial expressionsd(happy, sad, sleepy, mean ect) as time went by.  This was exhilerating for mom and me.  We thought we discovered something huge and actually it was.  We decided to try to met him where he was and it was fun and inspiring.................so keep on playing.

That is a huge deal!!

YAY for both of you!!  I love hearing these kinds of things!

That is totally awesome and I hope it improves even further for himI think that is worth a thousand words. Congrats!Excellent!HUGE deal - Congrats
