So confused about therapy | Autism PDD

I would request a team meeting and air my concernt about everything needing to be consistent. I'd also ask for an FBA to track your son's behaviors and make certain that the postive BIP is still appropriate and is being followed by all.

Thank you for your response.

Our autism consultant wasn't saying there was anything wrong with other therapists, she was just concerned about 2 different behaviorists working with him and not having coordination of services.

Maybe I am not making sense.

Since he started preschool his behaviors have been more frequent and I think it's because he is getting used to new people, a new routine etc.

I am just not sure so sure that more is better anymore.  My son does get rather anxious around new people.

I don't know.  This stuff is hard to navigate through sometimes.

Oh my the boys have a ton of therapists between school and all the private stuff. Lets see, there is the ST and OT at school, Nikolas sees that ST 3 times a week, he is in the autism class and she is actually part of the class 3 times a week. Andrew has a school ST and OT too, but doesn't see as much of them as Nikolas because he is not in an autism class. Then there is the teacher and aid. Then there is the private ST and OT they see twice a week. And then there is the ABA therapist. That's like 5 therapists and a teacher. LOL!  I let the school therapists know what the ABA is working on so they can coordinate a little bit, and she keeps a good speech folder so I know what they are working on at school. But its pretty much a wide variety of things. It works well for my boys, it keeps things new and keeps them interested and the change in them has been pretty incredible. They look forward to each session with each therapist. Coordinating though so everyone is on the same page would probably be a good idea.

I am in a bit of a quandry and very confused about what to do next.

So, my 4 year old son is receiving services under and ISFP.  He gets OT, ST, special educater and an autism specialist.  He received an educational diagnosis in May and received services during the summer for 5 weeks and he progressed so much during those 5 short weeks!  We are just starting up with services through them again this week after a little more than a month off.

Now during the break we found an organization that offers scholarships for therapy.  We expressed interest in their in-home therapy program because we will only have to pay about 20% of the cost.  We met with the therapist yesterday and will meet with the tutor shortly.

So to my confusion.

Today we met with the autism specialist under the ISFP - who we all adore.  She has given us amazing guidance and we have seen our son progress a lot with her coaching.

She expressed concern about T (our son) having 2 behaviorist working with him, that it may be hard for T to have so many people working on different things, that it could work if there was a way to have someone coordinate the goals and therapy...etc.  I really don't want to lose her!  She has just been so good with and him.  And I hadn't really thought about the idea of too many irons in the fire.  I just hadn't considered that.  It felt like more would be better and I now I am not sure.  And since I don't know much about this new therapist or the tutor, I feel inclined to stick with what has worked so far.

And T doesn't need help with language.  He speaks clearly and a lot!  What he needs help with is social language, stuff with feelings - others and his own, and sensory issues.

I would just appreciate any input.  Have other gone through this?

Thanks for listening.

Tricia
