I was wondering what all is involved with this diet.  I haven't really studied much about it and am clueless.

What ARE the kids able to eat and NOT able to eat???

How many of you have tried it?  Any success with it???

Thanks everyone!!!!

Thanks- I hope maybe I'll get a chance to look over them when I have more time.  I really appreciate it.

Hi

If you check down in the autism diet section of this board, there is a tonne of information to help you get started.

I heard about it on Oprah today.

yeah, I heard it on Oprah too.  I knew of it before that though, but just wondered what all is involved with it.

Sarah was tested positive for both wheat and casien protiens showing very high in her urine/ stool which meant she wasnt breaking them down.  We were lucky she was so limited in her diet that for the first year I made huge batches of chicken nuggets with Mrs. Robbins GFCF baking mix and would freeze 3 xlarge french fries from Mcdonalds..apple juice, potatoe milk and the rest were from health food store like rice cream(ice cream) cookies, bread~all GFCF...pretty easy and no big deal at all.  The hard thing for us was giving her fish oil and nystatin for yeast and DMG..ect..she gagged everytime:P  But she improved so dramatically that first year doing ABA/diet and supplements that I have no regrets at all.. We do GFCF.  I don't go overboard on any processed foods, we just can't afford it!
We do fruits, veggies, meats.  Carbs are rice and potatoes.
I can make a few things, banana muffins and buscuits.  I buy a chocolate cake or brownie mix for special occasions.    I only spend extra a month on special things for my gfcf son outside of our regular grocery budget.

and here is a list to have with you at the store

Finding this diet has changed our lives, I understand its not that way for everyone though.
sevenup39344.220625Which is better tasting, rice milk or potato milkmy totally gfcf son prefers the potato milk over rice milk.

We prefer vanilla rice milk over potato milk though.
Vanilla flavored rice milk tastes pretty good. Potato milk since it is in a
powder form is very convenient when you are traveling.rice milk tastes better.
