Spit-sucking | Autism PDD

Seems like i'am in the same boat with U guys my son spits constantly everywhere and Houseshoes are deffently required here if you don't want to step in something

Same teacher informed her, seh is not supposed to say "fart" at school yesterday, so ...

Billy has been spitting for about 1.5 years. I have no advice, as he is still doing this however, I give him a washcloth to use so that he does not spit on the floor or all over his shirt. He uses several washcloths a day, as he will not swallow his spit at all. The washcloth prevents stepping in spit and prevents him from getting a bad rash on his face and chest. At first, I tried napkins but he would eat them

We use strong mints like Altoids and they seem to work a little.

When Aiden is not spitting he is biting the skin off his fingers, not sure what i hate more.

My 4yo does this sometimes.  Usually I end up overreacting and flipping out about how gross it is.  Obviously, that's not the best response.  I don't have any advice, other than try chewing gum.  But I know what it's like! swankyankee39343.4731018519

No advice Linda

I had to smile when I read your post title though - the things our kids put us through !!!Hmmmmm ... gum.  I have never been a gum fan, but it'd beat all heck outta THIS!I'm not terribly fond of the gum either, she's only 4 and I think that's too young for gum.  I have to keep a hawk eye on her to make sure she keeps it in her mouth instead of playing with it (maybe I should buy silly putty for that).  But, I'd rather all of that than deal with the spit thing.   Wyatt has figured out how to foam his saliva, he does it when he's bored or mad at me. It's disgusting!

Anybody else got this charming habit to contend with?

Sensory-seeking or getting permanent teeth?

My youngest does it a bit while he's concentrating on his drawing, but not to the extent that it's a problem.

Good luck with everything.

foxl I cant believe this... my ds is doing this and I dont know why!!!!!I wish I ahd advice for you..if you find anything let me know and I will do the same!!Maybe we should get a suction tool from a dentist, lol!!!

Mason still does the gagging himself thing!  We use gum too...it does help some!

Good luck!

I work with a little guy (not my son) who does this.  I carry a supply of tissues in my pocket and give him one every time he starts to spit, slurp, etc.  Unfortunately, after he wipes his mouth, he takes a bite of the tissue on his way to the trash can.  He's too young for gum, so I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone has any other suggestions!
