My son has always been big on lining things up. Like some other people suggested, sometimes I will go help him and mess with him a little
Honestly, if he is lining things up, it either gives me a break or a chance to play with him peacefully, and I know he isn't doing anything destructive (a big issue during playtime with us), so I am happy, lol.
Wyatt lines up everything he gets his hands on. My sister says she can tell when Wyatt's been to her house because things are lined up in every room he's been in! It know it's part of how he copes with overwhelming surroundings, if I can re-direct him, I do. If not, I give him his space when it's appropriate. My daughter does this with her horses.my children do this with trains shoes videos
please done stop them doing it
it is teaching fine and gross motor skills
it is using imagination
they are using hand to eye control
all are what many children with ASD lack
shell mum of 6
one with autism one with AS one with traits one with lbd
i also have AS
Well, if you like Floortime, you should get involved ... line some of them up yourself, maybe do something odd with one, or throw in a non-like object to the line ... or playfully obstruct the line! So you force interactive play and communication into the mix.
This summer was the first time I saw T lining things up, and she is 6!
OH! Another horsey girl, eh? T is HUGE on horses.
amber, I am going to start reading Misty of Chincotteague to her (and the littles) tonight!
My son is doing great Lately ,but still lines things up ,mostly small cars ,small toys, but he is a lot better than he was ,now he will play with the toys while lining them up eg .. he will drive the car into position, walk a figure into the line ,ect..
He is still lining them up, but it seams more normal play now.

Here's a good way of thinking about this type of behavior, from the experts at the National Autistic Society in the UK:

My almost 6--year-old son is ASD and is obsessed with lining things up. It does not matter, he gets into everything and lines up in the kitchen on the counters, back of the cough, on the floor. HELP
Thanks,
