switching to milk alternative | Autism PDD

hi there -

you can try soy mlik, it is about 100 x tastier than rice milk - and make it chocolate or strawberry if need be!

how do you get a kid who LOVES milk to switch to a milk alternative? we tried to give DS rice milk the other day, and he sipped a little and then made this face like it was yucky. then he refused to drink anymore.  Mix the cows milk and rice or soy 75/25 then decrease the cows mil and increase the replacement so he becomes accustomed to the taste. Add flavouring to the milk. make smoothies in the blender adding fruit, and ice or soy icecream to the rice or soy milk.  LizWe, too are avid soy milk drinkers- the entire family is hooked on SILK soy milk, comes in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, very vanilla and original. It is quite good, even in cereal I cannot tell.We use the vanilla soy milk...Payne barely notices a change. We had ours do without for about a month and then he appreciated the alternative.
We use Vance's Darifree or Vanilla rice milk.
We could not do soy, it gave my son gastro problems.
Did you check to see if the soy milk had gluten in it? Often they add malto dextrin made from wheat. I didn't figure out the connection for a long time, just tried lots of brands( as my daughter got diarhoea on soy milk too) and then settled on one which I didn't realize was gluten free. LizSarah loved the potato milk..it is fortified just like milk and is in powder form so I could take it anywhere we went without it spoiling.  No soy or casien at all. We use rice and Dari-Free potato milk. One thing to consider when getting
rid of dairy(casein) many kids are sensitive to soy as well. My son tested
sensitive to dairy and soy.vanilla flavored soy milk - but I think it's full of sugarYea, same thing here.  It wasn't the gluten in some soys, my son was just sensative to soy which was later confirmed on allergy tests.
