Rita,
The way it works in CA is Regional Center and School district split the cost!! It takes a lot of work on your part to get this and it might go to court!! But this is what needs to be done. I also read research after research that anything less than 30 hours of therapy 1:1 is useless. People don't say 40 hours for nothing... Do u have a special education lawyer in ur area??? Go for a consultation... they r expensive to retain, but they will end up saving u money on the long run. No one can afford to pay 00 a month for ABA and other services and unfortunately this is what our kids need and it is our job as parents to get for them... I am thinking of selling a kidney !!
My biggest concern is what happens after age 3. I am told that my dd will NOT get all these wonderful hrs of therapy fromt he school. Even of she qualifies for a full day prg (6 hrs/day), she will get abt 2 hrs of ABA (if that), some speech, some OT - all in abt 2.5 hrs of therapy per day, the rest of the time will be spent socializing with other kids, lunch, nap etc!!
Is this something I should be ok with or should I DEFI consider pvt schools for autistic children??EI is not allowed in the Old Bridge school district after age 3 - not only that, apparently I cannot bring EI therapists into the IEP meetings..!! I know I am talking 8-10 months from now.. but there is a HUGE waiting list for pvt schools and I am not sure what direction would be best...
PLEASE PLEASE help.
Old Bridge? Are you in NJ? I was under the impression services in NJ are supposed to be fantastic.
I don't know yet bec my daughter is still with EI... I hear that the school is inundated with children with special needs and hence a pauncity of funds and teachers .. and i AM getting a good # of hrs from EI.. just dont know what happens next... plus my daughter is not preogressing ATALL.. infact her behaviors/stims and getting worse.START RESEARCHING NOW! where?????????? I know this sounds STUPID ( I am !!)...but where do I start? Should I read up IDEA 2004 and Wrightslaw?? point me in the direction......... please........The best thing is to PM Tzoya...she might be able to give you more insight...also talk to people with the Autism Society in your area...network with other parents, therapists are good for some info too...they usually go to some of the schools.
