Thanks for the advice Kathy. We ave discussed the job of the shadow many times with the teacher, but she still ignores him. The shadow actually stays back most of the time.

The school didn't pick the teachers for each class until a week before class. So, there wasn't much I could have done. We were signed up and then the teachers were assigned. The other class is full but they said they would let him in. Our consultant is going back tomorrow and then we will make a decision. It's a lot of work to coordinate and we will probably start all over again with new teachers. I guess that's why it frustrates me so much.

Thanks.

I hope this week goes better for you and ds.
That teacher sounds like she should not have gone into teaching.

When I was in elemenary school(in the 1970's) we were only allowed to go to the bathroom at certain times. I thought that practice was extinct. Ond day I had to use the bathroom before the end of the day but was afraid to ask because we were only allowed to go at certain times. Well, I wet my pants on the way home. We only lived 2 houses away from the school. My mother was livid. She went to the principal and told him that they were to let me go the bathroom as often as I needed. Even then i had to brong in a note from my mom letting the teacher know that I was to be allowed to use the bathroom as needed. Now the tutor is sending me emails accusing me of getting her fired and asking for explanations. I sent an email asking for her to return some of my matrials and she basically wont until I asnwer her questions. AAAAAAAAArgh. This is just making me sick to my stomach. I really am a nice person and I just want my stuff back.Tell her its nothing personal but she was not a good fit for the current team.
You are on a schedule in terms of programs and the programs were not hit
enough during her shift. ABA is data driven, costly to say the least. Everyone
has to be on the same page. Just keep it very professional.Ouch! I hope things perk up for you soon.

There are 3 teachers in his class. The problem is the lead teacher. I will probably make the change, but I want to make sure it is really for the better before I do it. We do have an shadow--but I still want the teacher to acknowledge him. And, I get stressed making all of these decisions.

OUch Flip - hope it gets better soon Flip, we also have a shadow, we have one in general ed kindergarten this
year and we had one for typical preschool last year. The teachers is the one
who engages my son and teaches him what he needs to learn in school.
The shadow is there is nip any behaviors that may occur before they become
a problem or should he not start a task within 5 seconds of getting
instruction etc., We take data on how well my son does in 2, 3 step
instructions, how his joint attention is as well. My son does not depend of
the shadow for instruction. he has learned that the shadow is there to
sometimes keep him on task so he will finish his work in a timely manner.
He has been told actually that his shadow is a classroom aide who helps
everychild. That is what she does by the way. We handpicked his teachers
this year and it has worked wonders.

We have been having difficulty with one of our VB/ABA tutors and was just discussing that with our consultant. Overall, I was not comfortable with her in our house. My gut said to get rid of her and I expressed my concern to our consultant. The director ended up contacting her because her documentation was not adequate and after a month she was still not getting through his programs. Since she has about 10 hours a week with us, this was causing a lot of problems. She quit. Which is a relief, but now our schedule is all messed and it will be a while before they can get someone new and then train them.

Then, I went an observed his preschool class. One of the teachers is just nasty. She told all the parents that kids were only allowed to go the bathroom at a specific time and at no other time. My goodness, they are 3. This is a typical preschool, but still. The director and other teachers were on board with having him in the class, but one teacher is holding such a grudge. In watching, my son really doesn't stick out much from the group, but the teacher ignores him. I watched how she interacted with the other kids and it was quite different. I brought our consultant along and she met with the director. They feel the teachers in the other class would be much better for him. I really hate to change the class. He has had so many changes in the last month. So, I've got to make a decision about that this week.

And, we just spent 12 hours in the car with two young kids over the last 2 1/2 days. I think my head is going to explode. And, I can't get those crazy Wiggles' songs out of my head.

Please let this week be better!

flip39342.1901851852Make the change with the teacher, I can not believe that she is ignoring him.
Her job is to engage him and to make sure he is generalizing what he is
learning in his home program to school. It is her job to teach everychild.
The teachers at my sons old preschool went out of their way to make sure
that my son was included. He got to know and love all his preschool
teachers. Really that teacher needs to find another job.Sorry it's been such a rough week!!  Hoping things get better for you soon!  Good luck with finding a new therapist.  I'm thinking if the teacher's in the other class would be a better fit, then he would probably adjust pretty quickly and in the long run getting him away from that other teacher is going to be better for him...sometimes I wonder why people like that went into anything involving children!!  Good luck with making your decision, I know it can be hard!
