anything to help the verbal stimming? | Autism PDD

It starts from the second his eyes open. Before I get any coffee or tea or get the newspaper Paul has already "lectured" me on 4 topics. He is improving in learning real conversational skills but the constant chatter is hard on the ears!!

Eveything gets retold to me in utmost details, nearly verbatim of the original event. Love him to pieces, but oh for just a minute or two of quiet I do long for.... I want him to know I love talking to him - he's smart and funny and loving - but when he's talking incessantly AT me I'm not at all thrilled.

Anybody else have an ASD case of "verbal diarhea"? How do you deal?

My apologies in advance to those whose dream is for their child to speak at all and for whom this would be a welcome problem. That must be really hard! My heart goes out to you too!

I get up earlier than my kids, so I can start my morning in peace.

It's definitely important for your son to learn that he can't talk other people's ears off (or is he just that way with you?), so I hope other parents have some suggestions for you.

Good luck with everything!

verbal diarrhea

A serious disease which, once it has control of a person, causes them to spew forth incoherent babble from the bowels of the voicebox. Often extremely frustrating for the victim and extremely hilarious for the observer.

My son is coming out of autism and he has been talking so much that its unbelievable. I mean its everywhere he is doing this. At least he has stopped repeating ,so his echolalia has dissapeared.  But there is nothing we can do to stop this. What has his doctor said about it ? Where does he do it the most?

Today I ran across an info sheet called "Interrupting, repetitive questions, and talking too much."  Here's the link:
