Collin is left handed and in fact the only lefty on both sides of the family.
DS is a lefty, so is DH (who is possibly autistic).I attribute a lot of T's learning problems to having a peripheral (non-brain) birth injury that has forced her to be left-handed. I think if her right arm were healthy, she would be right-handed.
She had a lot of trouble getting to work and read left-to-right, did TONS of mirror-writing and so on ... but after being taught, would often spontaneously identify left and right from age 4 ... very odd.
I'm left-handed and so is my 4 yr old son w/ mild/mod. ASD. All others in the family are right-handed.My son is right handed, but he didn't show a clear preference for his right hand until he was 3 or 4, if I recall correctly. This slowed down his coordination, I think -- each hand got half the practice, instead of one hand getting all the practice, if you know what I mean.
I HAVE JUST READ THAT SOME DISORDERS APPEAR TO BE LINKED TO BEING LEFT-HANDED . BUT MY SON IS RIGHT HANDED<SO AM I AND HIS DAD IS LEFTY, NO ASD.Me & Sarah are both leftys...when I was a nurse many of us were leftys as well as the docs? I am the only one in my side of family and none of dh side. Sarah actually eats with her right but everything else she uses her left.
DS is right handed. Although there are left handed people in family including one grandpa.
Concernedpa.
My eldest (very quirky with atypical early development but NT) is left handed, and Sharlet can still use both. Jaden is right-handed. I am a lefty. I know that dyslexic children usually have one parent that uses left hand. They are somehow related? Good question! I am left handed, no ASD. My DS who has mild/moderate Autism is left handed, has been sice about 9 mo. of age. Myother DS who is 18 mo. and is being eval. for ASD has not made up his mind which hand to use, though I think it may be his right hand. All my other children are right handed.Nick is left-handed. So am I! My other 2 sons are right handed.I was wondering if another connection they are making with kids on the spectrum is being left handed..
only wondering because we went for an evaluation and one therapist pointed out to another that DS was using his left hand
thanks!!!
I have no idea. Someone did a survey on this board and there were a lot of kids who were left handed. Both of my kids are right handed.

Both my kids are right-handed. Ds sometimes does things with his left hand, but has always seemed more comfortable writing with his right hand. I think one of the issues our kids often have is not developing a preference for either hand. That doesn't mean that all kids who don't have a preference for a while have autism - I could do things with both hands for a long time and I still try to do certain things with my left hand. But I really can't write with it - it's pretty illegible...Jer is a lefty.
Jer was left handed since I can remember.
Mason is left handed...all 3 of my other children are right handed...but left handed runs in our family and dh's...we are both lefty's as is my sister and both dh's brother and sister. Plus lots of cousin's aunt's uncles etc.
My nephew also has autism and he is a righty.
Doesn't seem to be much to go on with the whole lefty righty thing, at least in our family...it's pretty much scattered all over!
