Dairy? | Autism PDD

My son has lactose intolerance, and dairy products definitely speed up his digestion.  Milk and ice cream are the worst.  My son eats yogurt and lactose-free milk everyday without problems, as long as he doesn't get them on an empty stomach (like at breakfast).  They even have chocolate lactose-free milk now.

Medications can affect how your son digests food and absorbs nutrients.  Have you gotten adequate information/dietary advice in connection with your son's megacolon treatment plan?

Good luck with everything!  Good to hear that the school is responsive to your requests.

NY Mommy. My little grandson has a terrible problem with milk. My daughter found that cutting down on milk or giving him non-fat was worthless. There is milk in so many things that he probably is still getting too much. Nate had the opposite problem of your child. He was terribly constipated. His improvement came when he went cassein free totally. It has made a huge difference.

OK ... there has been a definite difference with my son since he started kindergarten.  They have been giving him milk with lunch, and his bowel movements (when he goes in his sleep) have been even worse, more runny.  I cut down his prescription laxatives and it is still happening.

I sent in a note today ... no more milk ... and we'll see if it happens.  When he has milk at home, I only buy organic non-fat, and he never drank much of it.  Only occassionaly asks for chocolate milk.

I had to have a note from the doctor for them to not give B regular milk at school.  He has soy.

They did answer my note and said they would no longer give him milk.  I have to believe, since this is a classroom specifically for autistic children, they have run into this problem before.

Sigh ... if I could just get this bowel/colon problem under control, it would make life so much easier!  If he is still leaking, how can I ever potty train him?  How can I ever help him get over this fear?
