Music Therapy=WOW! | Autism PDD

That is nice to hear.  My son will start musical therapy tomorrow (through a local university for 45 min/wk).  He was recently diagnosed and has never had any therapies (besides speech therapy at school which just began near the end of the last school year), so I'm not sure what to expect.  The price was very reasonable, so we decided to give it a try.

Yes, to my pleasant surprise, dd has music therapy in school!!! They never
mentioned it to me, and it never came up during the IEP process. They do it
once a week, the whole class (6 kids). She loves it!! I'm so delighted by
this!!
One of our children get this as well, and they really enjoy it!
Music is my son's favorite part of school.  He used to cover up his ears at the sound of music. Not anymore.Sounds great. If something is given to the WHOLE CLASS, it is not on any one child's IEP.  The I in IEP means individualized, as you know, so only things that are INDIVIDUALLY necessary for your child will be there. This is the GOOD side of pre-determined "programs."  Sometimes a child can get interventions thru these programs that would otherwise not have been included on the IEP.  Music therapy is often a GREAT entree to social skills and language skills not to mention a great outlet for tension.  Hope she enjoys it.
