Thank You, Im guessing he will end up with a long trip Im just hoping it isnt more then an hour.
I just had this battle last week. What State do you live in? Every state is different. Luckily some firm complaints to the transportion at my SD changed it, but they wanted my 5 year old on a van for two hours. Just be firm, but polite at first. You need to get your IEP meeting done too, that is another battle I underwent, I just called and called until they gave me my meeting, it's good to be annoying, it's part of our job as ASD mothers.

I'd say about 2 hours both ways, I used to have to travel that long when I lived in Duluth The school system has changed my son's school. Instead of where I registered him they thought it would be best at another school so they could get a teacher trained to work with the asd kids coming in this new yr. Problem is, so far they dont have a bus for him. They say they are "working" on it. ONE i think they should have to provide this for him. But what Im scared of is they will get him on a bus ride that is over 2 hours long, (they tried this in the past). Question is, how long is too long by law? His IEP is next week and so I want to know before i go into this. Also how much notice do they need to give a parent before they tell you there is and IEP meeting? Thnks for any input
They are required to provide your son with transportation if it is included in his IEP. Request an IEP meeting immediately to get this taken care of.I live in WVa, the IEP meeting is for tomarrow. My biggest things with be wanting some type of ABA for him, the bus and the amount of time he will be on it. And also last year they refused him a one on one aid or mentor to be with him at all times. Those are area's Im going to have a lot of trouble with I think. Right now if they were to bus him straight to school it would be about a 45 min trip one way. Im afraid they will like last year try to make him wait while they stop and different schools and all kinda things. That made it about a 2 hour bus ride one way for him. I'll let everyone know how the meeting goes tomarrow.
It isnt looking great though, one of the other parents of an ASD child had the law called on him for some reason today during there IEP meeting. I see this childs parents there at the school ALL the time. I swear I think they stay on the property all day long with there child.

They sound like Idiots, but then again, I had my fair run in with the school system and the former group home that I stayed at.
Well the meeting went pretty good for the most part. She was mad that I asked for the bus, she gave me one of the rolling of the eyes looks. She was also upset when me and the OT asked for a FBA for him and also when I made her go over the reason they refused me the aide last yr. I told her I wasnt fighting that cause C is doing well with the way they have things right now but that I had a right to understand why I was refused. The thing is, she sent a letter with it but it wasnt signed or anything, it stated that they didnt have to write in the specific Methodology and of course gave me the reference number and all that to look it up in IDEA 2004. But when I did this, it didnt make since to me on how that said anything about Methodology.
I waited till all the other things were taken care of then I asked her to go over it, she then told me that if i wanted to understand it maybe i should try law school. That she had never once read it herself. And that she didnt know the laws, I should call the state office and ask them that they would be more then happy to explain it all to me.
When asked why she didnt fill out the refusal paper she told me that its just something the state gives them as a refernce that she didnt have to fill it out and sign it. Soooooooooo all that said though, it is put in the IEP for the bus, for the FBA and now he gets OT 60 mins a month. And they are now going to start him in class with the NT kids for art music gym and circle time. All in all it did go well though.

I have a question, was any of that meeting in plain English?
I'm sorry, do you mean that you dont understand where they are coming
from? Or is it that you dont understand how I wrote it out? To me, they
just didnt know what to say so they danced around it all.
I asked because most of those horrible things are in Legalese, a language not even I understand. By danced around it, do you mean, by chance, that they tried to dodge the question of point? because at mine, that's all they did. of course, nothing they ever said to me OUT of those meetings made any sense. I'm just glad you and he came out alive. Tis a pity alot of NTs like to be "rational" and never suspect that MAYBE JUST MAYBE, that Aspie sitting in a corner (or in his/her closet if it was me) ranting to him/herself about conspiracy MIGHT BE a tad on the right track, especially when we're dealing with schools....I mean, how much more obvious can a term like COMPULSIARY Education be that something is going on? we'll talk about that later, Miss Dreamy, I'm just glad you're alive and well after those three horrible letters I E P
