Has anybody tried the "play project" DVD? If yes, could you write down your opinion?

Thanks

You're talking about the CD-Rom, right? I have seen it several times and think it is a great resource. Are you doing the PLAY project? We have been doing it since he was 2 1/2 and love the results we are seeing. The CD Rom gives Solomon's lecture and a lot of video clips of parents applying the techniques. I just borrow it every once and a while from our consultant. i think it is a great resource. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

I know Kajoli just ordered it and is in the process of watching it.

Yes I am talking about the CD-Rom. It is based on the floortime. Correct? What does distinguish it from the floortime approach? This is my main question.

The PLAY Project is Floortime. It is also a cost effective way to provide the therapy by training the parents and giving them the support, rather than a therapist. Solomon and Greenspan are pals and Greenspan approves and supports of Solomon's model.

The CD ROM is parent friendly and easy to understand. So, this would be a good way to teach yourself the methods.

Floortime is challenging with children with autism because it isn't natural for them. My NT 19 month old loves floortime! My 3 year old with autism would much rather do his sight words or story sequencing than play anything. The challenge is getting into their world and challenging them to grow in their play skills. That's where the PLAY consultant really helped me. Yes, I can do the strategies, but you got to get him to respond and each child is unique. She gives me new ideas to help him grow. It's a lot of work.

Kajoli, I'm sorry you've had a tough time with your parents accepting R's ASD. I'm sure that's tough. My in-laws don't "get" autism. They think it is the same as MR, which they know he isn't. So, they don't understand all the fuss.

flip39334.5617592593Its Floor time - I did order it - it very good but in my opinion - I thought it was a bit basic -I am glad I bought it as I liked seeing the examples
It was a great clarifier for me as  I have read so much on Floor time so it made it come alive - But its the Best Introduction to someone who does not have the time to read "The Child with Special Needs" and "Engaging Autism"and listen to the podcasts

My challenge really is not having enough time to DO it

I really ordered it so may parents would watch it but they did not- they would watch bits and pieces in stints and then sigh and say - whats new bout this - I got tired of asking them and watched it myself  -
I don't know why they don't - they adore R and would do anything for him but they just
  1. dont think R has ASD
  2. they don't like to be taught something as they feel they are very experienced in child-rearing ( they are - but they are experts in NT kid rearing )

Yes Flip - your inlaws attidue describes my parents perfectly - I guess I should just be grateful that they love him unconditionally !( and I am )

My MIL ( who also adores R) is the other extreme - she obsesses and worries over every detail and makes us all hyper - her attitude drives me nuts as well

Oh well
