Teaching Play and Social Skills to Individuals with Autism and other related disorders by Jennifer Donnelly, MADS (candidate), BCABA.

 

 

The Workshop:  This 3 hour workshop is designed to provide parents and professionals with the strategies to teach individuals with autism and other related disorders various play and social skills.   The workshop will cover in detail the following:

 

  • How to identify toys/activities for the learner to engage in
  • How to teach the learner to play with the items/activities
  • How to make the items/activities valuable to the learner so they want to engage in them
  • How to make peers valuable so your learner wants to interact with them
  • How to teach the learner to request for items from their peers
  • How to teach the learner to follow receptive instructions from their peers
  • How to teach the learner to request for attention from their peers
  • How to teach the learner to engage in turn taking games from their peers

 

Jennifer Donnelly is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst who is an associate of Establishing Operations, Inc. Currently Jennifer is pursuing a Master of Applied Disability Studies from Brock University. She has worked with children with autism for the last eight years utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, with a special emphasis on Verbal Behavior for the last five. Jennifer has experience working with a wide range of learners. She has served in the capacity of an Instructor Therapist, however much of her experience is in providing consultative services for several in-home and center-based programs both locally and internationally. She has worked within the Intensive Behavioral Intervention program with children with Autism for five years, four of which was as a Supervisor with the Geneva Centre for Autism. Currently, Jennifer is a Clinical Coordinator at Shining Through Centre where she is responsible for supervising Senior Instructors in their programming for individuals with autism. Jennifer has developed and presented courses and workshops for schools, parent groups, and professional organizations in Canada, France and Switzerland. Jennifer is based out of Toronto, Canada and is currently working as a verbal behavior consultant for EO Inc providing consultation services all over the US and Canada as well as internationally under the supervision of Mrs. Kibbe and Mrs. Twigg. She has also co-facilitated various verbal behavior workshops with Mrs. Kibbe and/or Mrs. Twigg.
