Not sure about brain channels but our dd had MRI for toe walking which afterwards the MRI showed she had delayed myelin..no cure but we got her on fish oil hoping it would help keep what she did have and that it wasnt deteriating but just delayed..she cont. to progress and language came in so all was well..It is funny when I read fish oil for speech delays now because we did it for different reasons~either way it works:)
thanks Shelley. J- toe walks too. J has to go in for a MRI. One of the reason is bec. my grandmother's MRI results said granny's brain and brain channels were shaped different. My question has anyones kids MRI came back like this?Mason had an MRI and it came back with left sided atrophy...that means the left side is smaller than the right. He also has scarring in his temporal lobe (it's called mesial temporal sclerosis)...this is from an injury, possibly from a seizure, but they can't be 100% sure...he was a preemie so they said it could have possibly been from a brain bleed at birth. He also has some missing white matter (sorry can't remember the technical name) around a ventricle...this caused this ventricle to be larger and filled with more fluid. I also remember them telling me something about the basal ganglia...I'm sorry I can't remember exactly what they said was wrong with it, but this apparently has something to do with the way he walks...he holds his right arm kind of up, elbow tight against his body and his hand dangles at his wrist...they explained that it's almost like he can't feel his arm when he is walking and running...he has feeling in it, he can use it, just not as well as his other arm and hand, he also has problems crossing it over his body...he will pick something up, and if he wants to move it, he will switch it over to his other hand and move it rather than cross his arm over his body...from what they have explained this is all to do with the basal ganglia.
I'm not sure what brain channels are, his neuro never used that term as far as I can remember. But when you look at Mason's MRI you can see the difference in the size of the sides...also you can see this area that is black (that's how the fluid shows up) and you can see how much bigger it is on the left side vs. the right side.
I don't know if this helps you at all, but this is what they found when they did Mason's MRI.
Good luck with J's MRI and hope all goes well! Keep us posted.
thanks NorwayMom thank for posting/sharing. I'll let everyone know the results. My son's MRI came back "normal," but I was never really told what they were looking for. I mean, did they even consider the shape and relative size of things, or did they just look for tumors and cysts, etc.
I hope someone has some experience to share with you.
