I wasn't sure where to post this but HAD to share with you all. This is a CD by Cathy Bollinger - My Turn Your Turn - You might want to listen to some of these songs and maybe even purchase it. I did and both my son and I love it. Read on: You can listen to some of the songs at http://www.songsforteaching.com/store/My-Turn-Your-Turn-Song s-for-Building-Social-Skills-CD-p-1172.html .
My Turn Your Turn, the seventh CD from award-winning singer-songwriter, Cathy Bollinger sparkles with thoroughly singable songs that gently address the needs of children who find social interaction confusing or challenging. Using descriptive, social story-like phrases to talk about concrete situations, My Turn Your Turn sings children through the tricky territory of engaging with others. Songs touch on empathy, asking for help, handling anger, and other daily social skills. With music that makes lessons fun to learn, Bollinger, a trained music therapist, breaks common everyday interactions down into simpler and more understandable activities. Who ever said children’s music had to just be for kids? Parents will love the effect of good manners mixed with terrific music.
Just wanted to share with all. Marti
Such a sweet singing voice...I wish I got it a few years ago not sure she would like it now but still may get it:) Thanks for sharing!
Shelly, my boy is 9 1/2 and he loves it.. Really think about it. That is what I thought when I first heard the voice - yes so sweet. I thought my boy would literally laugh at me and tell me it is 'baby' songs.
Just a few minutes ago I was playing "Look Towards Their Eyes (with the lyrics printed out) and he commented at the end - Gee Mom, you tell me that all the time. Would you believe he actually looked at me straight in the face when
he said this. I have chills as I type this because it is always so much
reminding when he starts talking to look at my eyes. I have always tapped
my nose when we are talking as his reminder to look at my eyes. Here I play
the song for the first time and with his response I didn't have to tap my
nose. (I believe I have a permanent indentation on my nose from tapping it
so much - maybe the indentation will actually fall back to normal. -- only
kidding of course!)
I truly believe your 7 yr old will LOVE IT!
marti,
Okay I am buying them:)
I know in my heart that Sarah really learns through music and videos and these songs really are helpful for her socially and repetition of hearing more than once are going to help her so much!!
Thanks!
