wow. a few months ago when my son was approaching 2.5yrs old he starts waking telling broken stories of certain animals biting and pinching him etc. its evolved to runnin thru the house saving stuffed animals, trucks breaking him, when a child is around hes like boy not come, over and over. in a crowded place he starts rambling too many people over and over. he start flapping and shaking his head back and forth and up and down, saying i cant do this, i dont know what to do, i dont know where i am, over and over going nuts and it breaks my heart because i dont know how to help him. i dont know if its paranoia or mania. does anyone elses children do this? especially any this young? ive never medicated him nor do i believe in it for hyperness, attention, or aggressive self injurous behavior that isnt severly hurting him or is controllable; but this is somthing all together different.

also, he only watches closely monitored dvds or cartoons, very baby oriented, theres no violence, hes never seen regular tv and he is fixated obsessed with animals in a good way, so i have a hard time making sense of things always biting/pinching him.

bump

sorry to bump my own post but im really hoping anyone can shed some info

A sensory issue with skin perhaps ??

maybe he is feeling something unusual or painful in his skin and by saying something bit him is the only way of describing it perhaps.

If you read a few biographies by autistic authors like Donna Williams you will soon learn that they often have or experience sensations they just can't explain.

They only thing I could suggest if this were the case would be to rub on some natural cream like Aloe Vera or vitamin E to maybe help his skin.

hope this helps

This question doesn't seem to have much to do with diet, so you might want to post again under the Parents category and see if you get more responses.

I'm pretty sure you're not dealing with clinical paranoia or mania.  It sounds like your son gets easily overwhelmed.  Flapping his hands and shaking his head is stimulation that he has control over and which can block out anything unpleasant.  Helping your son to know what to expect in various situations will thereby give him a better sense of control, and that should help his behavior.  A social story is one way to help him know what to expect.  There are a ton of sample social stories here:

Your son probably has sensory issues.  You can get an overview of them by completing this checklist:

http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processin g-disorder-checklist.html

Problems in a crowd could be a sensory issue about noise or proximity.  Your son may be afraid that people in the crowd or even a visiting child will touch him or cause him to fall down (some kids have a kind of vertigo called "gravitational insecurity").

As far as his fears about animals and truck accidents go, it only takes one exposure to something to result in an irrational fear.  You can read this very informative post on that by one of our forum members who has autism:

Well, it's my kids' turn to use the computer, so I'll just end this by saying good luck.
