Good luck with everything!  Keep us posted on how it goes with the school...I hope they listen to you now that you have the actual dx!  Take care and hugs!yay, aspergers is a 'better' more hopeful dx, keep your chin up! J- went to Dev Ped and he said she had Asperger's. I asked why not PDD and he said her IQ is normal.  So you don't have to have a speech delay? I'm just relieved that someone knew what was going on. There also checking her chromosomes and MRI. I still have to go to children's hospital to see NOW 2 specialist.
The first thing he wrote out was a letter to the school, so they can change her IEP. He sounded annoyed with the school and them refusing to listen to me.
This is a lot to get off my back. Now what? I have to do more paperwork with tri-care and have the IEP changed.
I have a quick question he wrote down she had Asperger's syndrome for the school but he told me She has High Functioning Asperger's? Are these the same thing? amberwaves39332.2906365741That is really good you've somebody on your side. AS can be hard to get a dx for at times and many many kids go undx'd to their detriment.   IT's alot of work ... I know, but it will be worth it to get the needed supports in place.  OASIS website has a some teaching strategies for teachers  for Aspie kids... Goodluck!I would assume that High Function Aspergers would be about the same as High Functioning Autism due to him saying that she doesn't have to have a speech delay. My ds is HFA (autism) but has a bit of a speech delay. When he is medicated for his severe adhd, looking at him and talking to him, you would think he was NT. But we went through a psychiatrist, tested by the school board also and was tested by the Autism Research Institute and all of the tests were exactly the same results.

Anyway, that is WONDERFUL news for you and your dd. Good luck in the future and keep us posted on how things are going.
You sound relieved. It is a good thing when all falls into space and you
can plan. She sounds like she is doing great.
I am not sure what your doc ment by it not being pdd because her IQ was
normal. I think in the IC-10 version pdd-nos (or the equivalent) is linked
with lower IQ but I do not think it is true for the DSM-V version. My ds
had Pdd-nos and his verbal and non-verbal IQ are both in the upper
normal range. My doc said that this was pointing to pdd-nos instead of
aspergers because in AS the verbal tends to be disproportinatly higher.?. I
wish all those docs would get their stories straight.
I think when docs or others say high functioning they mean that the kid is
doing well and appear less impaired then other kids with the same dx.
High functioning (whether AS or autism) is not a offical diagnosis or
classification. thanks everyone

Great news:)

Glad you got some answers~I got like 6 different labels and never agreed with any on them!

Best of luck!

Glad you got a dx that you think fits.

Aiden has an IQ of 130 and he has a pdd dx so it is not linked to IQ......

Hi Robyn. I just wanted to let you know Asbergers run in my Family.  Besides my J having it, I have other relatives with it. Both my kids lack hummor and how to be social. Both have a normal IQ.
I looked on the Smith-Magenis Syndrome. www.prisms.org website and Smith-Magenis Syndrome does not run in families. Smith-Magenis Syndrome Is caused by 17 cro. breaking off. Smith-Magenis Syndrome adults can have normal kids.
J- dev ped also knew about fish. He said he test all kids with forms of autism for complete chromosome test with fish, x-fragile and MRI. The only thing the Dr. was really wondering about was MRI bec. my grandmother had one done and her brain is shaped differently and wired differently. I'll let everyone know when I find out the results. I still have to get the stuff done
I hope the chromosome test involves up to at least the 17th chromosome. The 17th chromosome, when there is a deletion there,is identified as SMS or Smith-Magenis Syndrome. SMS looks sooo much like PDD-NOS that tons of kids go kisdiagnosed like my son did. He has been diag. as PDD-NOS since he was 7. He is now 14,and correctly diagnosed when the chromosomal test was done. The test called a FSH test (or a fish test, slang) shows this deletion. Go to www.prisms.org if you wanna learn more. Good luck, your amongst friends...
