Is the boy in therapy? They might want to sit down with him and let him color you a picture of what is making mad and why he is being abusive. That might help. I hope that helps and good luck.
I have a friend who has a son with PDD. He's 7 and very verbally, physically and emotionally abusive to his mother. She's ready to leave her husband (who she dearly loves) and take her other little one with her because she can't stand the abuse anymore and doesn't know what to do!
Please help me help her! You're a good friend. If the issue isn't her marriage, then there has got to be a better solution, but your friend is in a crisis situation and can't come up with it herself. Hiring an expert is probably a lot cheaper than having two separate residences. One option is respite services. Here is a topic on our forum with information and help for locating respite care. She might qualify for free help, but I live in Norway and don't know the details about the American system: http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14189&am p;KW=respite Another option is to get the help of a behavior analyst, who can objectively evaluate why the behaviors are occurring and come up with a plan to eliminate these behaviors. Here is a link to finding a certified behavioral analyst. http://www.bacb.com/consum_frame.html - click on "Certificant Registry" Finally, a local support group might do wonders for her. They can provide a shoulder to cry on and also information on local resources. Support groups can be found through the local ASA chapter, which you can locate here: In addition to locating an ASA chapter, you can also use that site to search by word or by the following categories: Assistive Technology, Camps and Recreation, Consultants, Community Supports for Adults, Crime Victime Services, Dentists, Early Intervention, Government Agencies, Information and Support, Legal/Advocacy, Medical and Diagnostic, Physicians, Private/Non-Public Schools, Psychologists, Public School Systems, Related Services, Research, Respite Services, Service Providers and, last but not least, Training. Good luck with everything! I'm so sorry your friend is going through this. Here are some past threads regarding PDD and aggression which I hope are helpful. http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=17850&am p;KW=agression http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=18871&am p;KW=agression Best wishes.
