If it's on his IEP, they HAVE to provide an aide. If an aide is not in his IEP, they STILL have to allow him to go on field trips without you if they do not require parents for EVERYONE, including NT kids. That's a civil right. Glad it has worked out.
Love the school my son is in and I trust they are doing a wonderful job, have an easy direct relationship with them. But of course it is not publicly funded. I wish public school administrators would get that chip off their shoulders.
Concernedpa.
It is the second day in school.
At the beginning of the summerbreak the principal wrote me a letter
'informing me' that there will be no aid and that I will have to go on all
fieldtrips. I called the district and made a stink and guess what: he has a
1:1 and I will not be going on all fieldtrips.
It is an educated guess that the principal does not like me very much
right now. I noticed that people are very careful what they say to me and
that staff seems to have somewhat prepared answers. Yesterday after
school I told the principal that the aid did not get instructions on what to
do from the resource room staff and if she would like me to prepare a
list for her. First thing this morning resource room staff came up to me
and gave me a long list of things she "went over with the aid yesterday"
and was so friendly her face cracked.
Not that I mind that much. I would like them to be aware and have
thoughtful answers. Still it is going to be frosty and I will trust them as
little as they trust me.
How is your relationship with school.
It got so bad between me and the ESE staff at my kids school, I called in the county to question their ability to be a productive member of the kid's educational team.
Suddenly things got all better. They are still a bit frosty, but atleast they are no longer openly hostile and rude. I still just avoid them and go strait to the principal for everything.
