He’s cheating & school update | Autism PDD

Only an asd parent can feel so  good about cheating and lying

My son also learned how to cheat early on at board games. It's kind of
strange to be proud of the fact your kid knows how to cheat, but I see this
as a good sign.

Now when we play, I also call him on any cheating (or close to cheating) that
I see him do. He generally grins when this happens, knowing full well what
he did and the fact he got caught at it.   That is soo funny. Branden has this blocks cube that you match the blocks in and the shapes fall down. Well, he will hide the ones that he can't do, so he doesn't have to do them. It is quite hilarous too. I am so glad that preschool went great for him. What a great way to start the school year.[QUOTE=horizon]

My thoughts exactly, lol!

Yipee for such a great start to school!

An awesome start to school  and Yayyyyy on the cheating

HOORAY for cheating!  That was my rxn too! Pretty young for that, isn't he?  And ... SNEAKY.  Very good sign.

I can't believe my son figured out how to cheat at Hi Ho Cherrio and a couple other games we play. He slows down the spinner or will move it when you are not looking. It's kind of a good sign, since he understands the desired outcome and wants to win. I was just floored that he thought to do it.

On another note, his first day of preschool went well. We went with a typical preschool and sent one of our VB/ABA tutors as his aid. Expensive as heck, but worth it. Lots of gross motor and sensory opportunities. Giant trampoline and obstacle that gets changed daily, hanging rope ladders, lots of space. They alternate between gross motor and sit down activity.

They are willing to work with us. It's a great set-up for a child with autism. Only drawback is that the class size is big. But, they have 4 teachers and split up a lot. Not to mention our tutor can help prompt him. I guess he did the bathroom independently with minimal assistance to pull up his pants in the back after coming out. I couldn't believe it. He usually followed directions by the 2nd prompt throughout the day. I guess the teacher was able to understand his requests. Very well behaved. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the link NorwayMom.

Obviously, I don't want him to cheat. I'm just happy to see he understands what is going on.

I can't wait to see how he does at this school. I'm going to get a babysitter for my younger guy and go watch class in a couple of weeks. They have a 2 way mirror.

Here's a social story about playing games that was written for a boy who cheated.  Of course everything is phrased positively.
