1st day of school...sorta (grrr!) | Autism PDD

Share

So, dd was very anxious last night, crying & going through many, many
bedtime rituals, finally after 2 hours, she was settled & asleep. This a.m.
she did okay, about 10 mins before we had to leave for school, she
started crying. But, once we got to school, she was great. We walked
with her & her sister, she had her backpack on (big shot!), then lined up
with her class!! She held hands like everyone else, the whole way to the
room, and did amazingly. We were SO proud of her.

We went to the office to drop off the health forms & the immunization
note (doctor didn't give her 2nd Hep A at last visit to ease her fears
associated w/ dr's visits...she's set to have it at her 4 yr well visit). This
was NOT enough for Nurse Ratchet....I mean the school nurse. Well, our
doc was not in this a.m., & no one could furnish a better note for them
(medical execption). So, they literally had us take her OUT of class. Yes,
one hour into her 3 hour day... We peeked in on her, doing circle time &
having a GOOD time. So, dh goes in the room, lets the teacher know we
need to take her, of course dd has a fit. Lovely, eh??

I'm SO floored, this school seems to enjoy putting boundaries up at every
turn. They wouldn't work with us AT all. I had to do all I could to not
lose it on this woman. This is the 2nd time this nurse has used a
condescending tone w/ me (& don't even get me started about that!).

SO, not only did we have to drag dd out of school...but now, I have to
take her to doctor's office for the shot. Technically, there is no medical
reason for her not to have the shot, so she's needs to get it. Wish us
luck!

I really hope this doesn't upset things for tomorrow--dd was upset at
having to leave & now is saying she doesn't like school & doesn't want to
go back.

Another long vent from me...lol...yikes, guess it's been one of those
weeks (or months...). At least I feel better now, and didn't blow up in
anyone's face. What would I do without this board????

Gosh, Elle, I'm really sorry about Nurse Ratchet!  I'm sure this is a stupid question, but do you have an option to do a philosophical or religious exemption for DD's immunizations?  Maybe that would satisfy the requirements, without having to rush your DD into the doctor for shots.

I delayed Jason's, and he's got an exemption.  (Religious, but they don't question me about it, thank goodness)  He's getting his shots, but I like to have a long break between, since the doctor's office traumatizes him every time he goes, shot or no shot, patient or tag-along.

Good luck, and I'm really sorry they made you wreck what sounded like what was shaping up to be a great day for your DD!  Jerks...

You can get a religious waiver.  They have no right to question you about it as it violates your right to freedom of religion.
