Immunizations - help | Autism PDD

If your going to vaccinate, I would make each one seperate if possible.
If you have to, get an exemption until it is completed
THanks for the advice.  The big problem I'm having is I can't find anyone willing to do it.  Where do I go? Who do I call?  Thanks again!Hi all.  I haven't posted in forever!  Sorry.  I have a little girl who just turned 4 (Autism, then changed to Asperger's last October) and is due for immunizations and I am scared.  I have decided that I do want her vaccinated, but would like to split the shots up and get them one at a time and oh what a time I am having explaining this to people.  Have called her dr's office, immunizations office, DHEC and my insurance company.  No one knows what to tell me, no one can order them (waiting to get that confirmed by her dr, but dr office doesnt' seem to think so), and i just don't know what to do.  I left a message for her dr, i'm hoping if he can't order them maybe he can give her a medical waiver until she goes to her developmental pied at the end of the month and maybe that dr can tell me where to go etc.  I don't know what to do....should i just fight for some kind of exemption or should i just let her have them like they want to give them to her?  I know she could get her MMR, then wait and go back for the DTAP, then wait and get the polio, splitting them up by a week or so.....but I was thinking of literally making the MMR 3 different shots/visits.  Anyway, what has everyone else done?  What made your decision for you?  My daughter has come such a long long long way since age 2 and I would just die if we lost any of her skills/development from getting more shots.  Any advice?  Thanks a bunch :)I tried for a year and could not get anyone to seperate the shots.  So I got a waiver and may consider again when he is much older and more information comes out about the link between immunizations and autism.  He difinitely regressed after the mmr shot and I cannot do it to him again.  Most likely he already has immunity considering all the shot he has gotten so far.

You can have a titer test done to check for immunity.  Many insurance companies cover them.  If not, I don't believe they are expensive.

My son's autism only became apparent after the MMR.  We now have a ped along with staff who have many chldren on the spectrum.  They are not anti vax by any means, buit do not make you feel like a schmuck for not getting certain ones.  We are skipping any additional MMR's for my 3.7 month old.  We are doing the SLOW but sure method for the two year old.

Good luck whatever you opt for.

It's very difficult to find someone who can order the MMR as three separate shots.  It's much cheaper for the manufacturers to combine them, and I was told they can be ordered separately, but only if a bulk order of 8 or so vials are purchased.  My physician was willing to place the order, but I would have to pay for the entire supply of 8 (or 24 total...measles, mumps, and rubella).  Instead, I opted to have a titer done on my son.  It's a simple blood draw and I had the results back in 3 days.  Fortunately, he tested immune for all three.  It was relatively inexpensive as well.

I went ahead and had the DPAT and Polio shot done together.

Good luck.

So if she has the tither test and it comes back showing she doesn't really need another one do they give me some kind of waiver?

Thanks so much!!!

Well, finally found a place that will give the MMR as 3 shots!!!!  YAY!!!!  Does anyone split the DTAP shot up as well?  Or just give it at one shot????  Is that technically 4 shots?

Thanks :)

Had one other question.....those of you who split the shots up and only do single shots how long in between do you wait?  Should I let her get one like once a week, or once a month etc?  She just turned 4 and hasn't had shots in like 1-2 years.  Anyway, anyone's advice would be GREATLY appreciated because I've never did this before!!  Thank you!Has anyone done the MMR shot as 3 different shots and still had bad effects/reactions or loss of anything in their children?  Emily had her first MMR shot over 2 years ago or so and I didn't really notice anything different.  Looking back maybe some loss of eye contact within 6 months after that but at the time nothing was lost such as her personality or words or skills or anything.  In fact we didnt' even know she was speech delayed until 2 and then at 2.5 she was diagnosed.  Hope this all makes sense and I'm not wording it badly.  Thanks :)
