after treating the adhd...????? | Autism PDD

ok, i was a little vague.

when we got keith regulated on meds for the adhd, the hyperactivity calmed down so much that the lining up, echo, spinning, sensitivity to sound, ocd, type things really became more pronounced.

so my question is, is it more of a progression of the hfa, or did a lot of you who have 1 child w/ both notice the hyperactivity was SSSSSSSSSSOoooo hyper that the hfa, was not so easy to see?

Autism and adhd is commonly linked.  Along with add, obsessive compulsive type disorders, sleep issues, eating issues, impulsiveness and mental health issues.  If there is a line it is so fine and invisible no one knows where it stops and the adhd or autism picks up.

Tammy

did u find that your child had more autistic characteristics?  did they start acting more autistic?

momof56638579.605775463So true, Tammy. My DH has everything you just mentioned. I do feel that
treating his ADD symptoms has helped minimize his autistic behaviors at
school, where they were most noticable. When he is focused, he has an
easier time accessing the curriculum, thereby minimizing the frustrations
of his learning disabilities. When he gets angry and frustrated at school,
it triggers the autistic and compulsive behaviors as a way to relieve the
stress. See how his cycle works? When all is in balance, all is right in his
world!

Jeffrey is truly autistic.  He is not high functioning at all.  And as it was explained to me at the time,  there is no way to tell where the adhd ends and the autism begins.

Tammy

Absolutely...we finally got the hyperness under control... and he has been acting more autistic at times as in  repeating words from movies, and more sensitive to sound than before.

Thanks for posting this...I was thinking I lost my mind.

It always seems like you get rid of one thing then there is anothing symptom waiting around the corner for you.
