Wecome to the board..you feel right at home:) We have tons of info to help you so take advantage and use us:) We may use you too!

I agree that behavior intervention plans should be tried first.  A GOOD doctor will ask about that BEFORE prescribing meds.  Keep us posted.

Welcome! I too am with the others saying wait until you are out of options for meds.  My dd began Trileptal well over a year ago for seizures, in the past few months, her neuro has increased dose to help stabilize her mood.  I think it does help her behaviors & mood swings some.  She has had zero side effects from it, but my cousin's child had a bad reaction (rashes).

Hi...I just saw this post...my son was on trileptal for seizures and I know a few others on this board whose children are also taking it.

I want to say it failed as a seizure med for our son, but I think it helped his behavior!  Once my son started on his new seizure med (depakote) he began having some serious behavior problems...I wanted to blame the new meds for giving him behavior problems, but then his neuro explained to me that it could have been the trileptal controlling the behaviors, and once that was removed, the behaviors started to show up...I can't be 100% sure that it was the trileptal helping, but figured I would post this and maybe it would bump this up for others to see.  Maybe they will have more insight on how well it helps with behavior.

Good luck with everything.

I think that if Triliptal (sp?) is for seizures and your son is having seizures, than that seems reasonable. However, I wouldn't jump into meds right away. Especially at age 5! I would try ABA or various other therapies first to see if that will help with any behaviors you might be seeing. If those don't work - well, then you should look at meds and do your research and carefully consider all your options. Medicine can be good, but at that age I would think that behaviors would need to be really extreme in order to even try them. That is awfully young...

By the way - welcome to the board. You will find lots of good support and advice here I hope!

Hi- my son was just diagnosed today with PDD/ASD and an Anxiety Disorder.  He is seven and for years we have been trying to figure out this quirky child of ours!  Of course, there is sadness that comes with hearing a definitive diagnosis but also a lot of relief.  It was confirming of what we had concluded and nice that we are getting an action plan in place.

So, I am new to all this.  Any knowledge about Risperdal?
