Can diet treatments cure Autism? | Autism PDD

This diet has improved our son's autism in that he is nearly off the spectrum. He also takes dietary supplements, and has regular blood tests to ensure his vitamin and mineral levels are acceptable. I would assume any doctor would continue to check these things as that would be the responsible and professional action to take.

We have been on the diet for 13 months and our son remains in the 90th %ile for growth- height and weight.

I myself have been dairy and gluten free for a similar length of time as is my younger daughter. Our whole family is healthier than we have ever been with regards to minor colds and coughs

So there are always exceptions to such statements.

I dont need a scientific test to see that my childrens' (2) chronic diarrhoea and bloating have been eliminated. I don't need a scientific test to see the hyperactivity, and hand flapping the screaming when my children eat dairy products. I dont need a scientific test when my verbal son can tell me he cant sit still or stop shaking when he eats the "wrong" food. No I haven't cured their autism but have improved thair quality of life. And they are wll nourished. Liz

Autism is a complex brain disorder that has no known cure. And there is no certain diet is proved to be an effective treatment for autism.

But many parents?attempt to help their children with diet treatments.?The most popular of these?alternative treatments are diets that eliminate gluten or casein, or both.Proponents of restrictive diets believe that casein, a protein found in dairy products, and gluten, a protein found in many grains, affect brain development and behavior, causing autism in some children.

But,there¡¯s no scientific evidence that this is true or that restricting these foods improves autism. Furthermore, restrictive diets can result in nutritional deficiencies in growing children.

Our sons are food allergies actually. I was given imfo. from our dan dr/allergist/immuologist that food allergies can effect behavior. The paper lists how didn't parts of the body are affected by allergens.
