POTTY ACCIDENTS | Autism PDD

THANKS michelle, he has a hard time going from one activity to another. never sticks with one very long. until he starte this playstation thing. he is actually very good at the games beats his older brother all the time. he just does not want to stop and totally tunes us out like we are not even here.

he starts preschool special ed. they are going to have alot of fun with him in about 3 weeks. big change for him also.

When Tyler first got started on video games he was about 4 I think and he made ME play the darn thing all day long and would watch as soon as I stopped he went into meltdown after I dont recall how many days/weeks he finally picked it up and played like a pro here he had been MEMORIZING THE GAME and what he needed to do and how the pattern went! He is also AWESOME at video games

Paul gets that way all the time--there is always something he is looney tunes for.  When he was little (under 6) I had to cold turkey him.  It was horrible but it would be something he just didn't have the self-control to cope with waiting for, etc.  You know, behavioral would work on other things, but THOMAS....ooohh nnnooooooooo.  He'd freak out--then replace it with another thing (game, character, video, etc).  It would be a 2 month cycle.  When he had better self control/less impulsivity I made it be time ltd or only on the weekends. Ex:  his current mania is Garfield and he wants to be Garfield all the time.  He uses Garfield's voice and wants to bring all 15 books (he counts them and puts them in order, surprise, suprise) EVERYWHERE!!  In ESY it grew out of control so now he can only be Garfield on the weekends.  And he can bring only 2 books--any arguing and there are no books.  BTW, when he is Garfield I am John and calls me that 24hrs a day.  The dogs are Odie 1 and Odie 2.

Oy.

Cyndie.... Maybe try setting time linits. If you know he needs to go every 1/2 hour then set a timer and tell him the rule is when the timer goes off we try going potty.  when its going to be time for him to eat tell him the rule is when the timer goes off it is time to eat. Believe it or not they will usually listen for that beep.... Make sure you praise him for following the rules and if he doesn't follow the rules make sure a consequence is clearly stated prior to setting the timer (example) When the timer goes off it is time to go to the bathrroom if you do not go to the bathroom the game will go in time out for x amount of time. Then be firm and stick to it. Hopefully he will learn to take a break as it is needed.. My son would play video games 24/7 if I let him... I told him even video games need a break or they can break!

Maybe if you give him a small chart of different picture ideas of things he can do... coloring, fingerpainting, a sensory box of figets, or a sensory tub to dig in, trucks, video games, a movie, action figures, Whatever he likes including going outside to play then set a timer and tell him when it beeps its time for him to choose a different activity. If you take a picture of him doing each activity laminate it and put velcro on it then place them all on a piece of poster board with velcro so he can see them and pull them off then he can make decisions and drop the activity in an "all done" box so he will have to choose something new when he hears the beep.

hello everyone, my son is 3.5 autism and has gotten into playstation games hard core. he will play for hours all day. hard to get him to eat, play, and use the bathroom. he gets so involved with the game he does not get up to go pee. i took the playstation away today and he cried for almost 2 hours and then passed out asleep. he did not have any pee accidents until this time. it broke my heart to hear him cry that long and having him say mommy peeze play. anybody else have this problem. any suggestions would be nice.

thanks
