Appauling IEP | Autism PDD

By offering to home school and by allowing them excuses to NOT hold the CSE, you have inadvertantly let them off the hook.  BTW, in New York, if you home school your classified child, they HAVE to provide IEP services for free (the same as they must for private school kids). However, you may be required to bring your child INTO the school for the therapy sessions.  I'd strongly suggest getting an advocate involved. Now that you are homeschooling your child, your CSE has no incentive to really give you son's education top priority. This will get better. I'm having my J's  IEP updated after her Dr. apt.  tzoya,  thanks for the link. The summer has been consumed with letter writing, phone calls etc. to resolve the situation but with vacations, and any other excuse you can think of it's been dragged out until now. I have told them I will home school my son until an agreeement is reached. They jumped on that of course, but they know I will keep pursuing a more satisfactory resolution.

my daughters school tried to pull the same crap on me. They said she no longer qualified for an IEP and we could maybe get by with an 504. I went home did my homework, wrote the 504 myself and took it to the meeting and I refused to back down until they agreed with everything on it. I wrote is so that it covered every aspect and more strict and with more things than the original IEP had on it.  You have to outsmart them and be willing to butt heads with them. Be strong your child deserves it and good luck and God bless.
Parent's send your se dept a iep you know will help your child out made by you. You can always go to mediation. Their is a 504 who isn't fit for online. I love the homeschooling this year. He has no St anymore it was crapy anyhow. Private st was way better. Region 10 told me before we removed him homeschool kids get nothing even if your a tax payer cause this is considered a priavte education. I reported our school/SE coop here to TEA! The problem here is not enough se staff/programs.

My son's CSE meeting was in June, it was a farce. They wouldn't tell me what school he'd be atttending in the fall even though we live three blocks away from one that offers services. They are trying to place him in a school some 7 or 8 miles away. They made promises to provide certain services etc. but listed these promises at the end of the IEP under "meeting notes and recommendations" instead of being firmly listed where they should have been. The number of typo's and misspelled words were abundant. The IEP truly looks like they spent all of 5-10 minutes slapping it together. I have been in touch with Parent Advocacy and they contacted legal services. Parent Advocacy feels strongly that we may really have some legal issues to present. Were supposed to go back to the table very soon, my son's service coordinator's, supervisor will be involved because she's going on vacation. I feel a little stressed about how this will go, I'm not sure that the school will budge. It might end up very nasty. Wish us luck everyone.  Linus -- YOu have done the right thing by contacting and advocacy source.  Why wasn't this addressed over the summer if the CSE was in JUNE?  Since you use the term CSE, you must live in NY.  Here the link to our NY sped laws http://www.vesid.nysed.gov/specialed/publications/lawsandreg s/part200.htm.  They are easy to read and include a special section for kids with autism. Just scroll down to 200.13  Keep us posted.
