So happy with D’s new teacher.. | Autism PDD

I know how you feel. I could not have asked for a better teacher and aides for Skylar. His teacher sent me a note home the other day, telling me how well behaved he is, and follows directions and re-direction so well. They are absolutely nuts about him and the he feels the same about them. He has really surprised me at how well he adjusted to being in school and riding the bus. He jumps out of bed every morning ready to get dressed for school. Makes me so proud!!

Zoe is in regular classes (2nd grade) and she just loves her teacher and looks forward to going to school everyday.

Lets just hope it stays this way with them both ALL school year.

I know it's only been 3 days of school so far, but I am SO SO SO SO SO!!!!!! happy with D's teacher for this year. We had met with her last year when we were doing his placement, but her room had more students than the other teacher, so he went with the other teacher.

We had some problems with the other teacher. Nothing serious, but she wasn't really looking out for D.. Just always seemed like she was going through the motions. We had even more problems during the summer program because of the size of the class. So I came into this year DREADING it..

Well, we got so lucky. D's new teacher is a BCBA. I explained to her in a letter for the first day of school that the summer program recommended a BIP. After 3 days, she has decided that he is definitely not a behavior problem. She has of course been watching him so she could set up his ABLLS program for the year.

She feels most of what the summer program saw as behavior problems was because of misunderstanding from his significant communication delays. She said, it's not that he has problems transitioning. That he is happy to transition, but he wants to do it too fast, and doesn't understand that he needs to wait. And of course, his frustration can come out of it, but she feels he's extremely easy to redirect even when he starts getting frustrated.

She is going to ask permission to put him in her afternoon class which has less kids than what he's currently in (he's in with 7 kids, the other class has 4, I think?). She feels she will be able to give him extra care and try to help him make faster strides if she has more individualized care. It seems too good to be true right about now. But it's been one of our biggest problems at home too. He just doesn't understand so much of what we are saying to him. So I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for the progress I'm sure he'll make this year with this teacher.. Even if the district is hard to work with, at least his teacher has his best interests at heart.
