I don't know about the rapid speech thing but one thing that struck me was that it sounds like he IS putting or trying to put 2 word sentences together (make bed) and THAT is a promising sign in terms of speech progression. I'm no expert of course I just know that my dd never put 2 word sentences together on her own (still doesn't really but has much longer stock or rote phrases that she can say and generalize to different situations but very few are of her own making) In her case, not putting 2 words together was a sign that her speech was not progressing, she is severely behind in her language and communication skills and dxed with pdd-nos. She IS verbal however and making progress....Good luck to you
It could be a progression, though I'm not a speech therapist, so I
don't know for sure. Luke sometimes says words for a week or so,
then we don't hear them again. It's as if his brain gets lazy. I
hope your child is making progress -- that would be wonderful
news!! Am saying a prayer for you ...

that's how keith was. when he started his adhd meds, he began to slow down and verbalize better. i did not catch how old he is..... keith is 4.8 and making progress.

My son is essentially nonverbal but lately his has been babling more and saying phrases. The words seem to be all run together. . . .he kept repeating maibed (make my bed) last night. I had not helped him make his bed and when I did he hugged me. Anything he is saying seems slured together. No pauses between words. If he did not repeat himself I would not have know what he wanted.
I am a single mom of an only child so I do not know if this is natural progression in speech. Has anyone else ever dealt with this???
We see the neuro this week and we are following up with his peditrician I am going to ask for a speech eval. since all the school district said is that when he is ready to do standardize testing they would retest him. . . .

Hi
My son who is now 2 1/2 was non verbal as well......until about 5 months or so ago.......you could tell he was trying but we couldn't understand.....how frustrating that must have been.....my son was and is still getting speech therapy but not until we borrowed those Baby Bumble Bee tapes from our Achievement Center did my son really start to talk......It was unbelieveable.....even his speech therapist couldn't believe the change and the way his vocabulary just went thru the roof.....he then began putting 2 words together and so on.....he still has issues with communication and echoalia.....but I swear those tapes did it! He liked them so much we bought them all and he still watches them all the time.....I agree with Sallys it is a sure sign of progression.......Bless you both!
